Hurst, of the Hotel Ga. Camilla, returned home Tuesday, al ter a week’s visit with relatives. Mr. J. R. Taylor and family, of Meigs, have moved to our town. We welcome them. Mrs. M. A. Tickets can be had from all points on the road at equally as low rates. Quitman’s Compress. Quitman, Ga., July 21.—I he Quitman Compress Company was organized to-day. At a meeting of the stockholders held this morning J. S. Coyle, Jr., was elected presi dent ; S. S, Rountn vice-president Mr. Hutchins, who has been with Coles Simkins & Co., in Brunswick general manager, and A. W. Groover, treasurer. The work of erect : ng the press is being rapidly pi-slu-d, and it will sonn be ready for business. The people in adjoining counties are ex pressing their intention of bringing their cotton to Quitman. It is ex pected that the high prices the com press will enable her to pay for the fleecy staple will increase tier receipts several thousand bales. In this city, on Tuesday, the 22nd inst., at the residenco of Mrs. C. A. Smith, on Warren street, Mrs, Roda J. I’errit, aged 55 years. Mrs. Perrit has lived in this city for a number ot years, and was a member ol the Baptist church. Tho remains were interred in Laurel Hill cemetery yesterday morning, Rev. W. J. Williams conducting the services. Arrangements have been made to get returns in from all the precincts to-morrow evening. They will he looked for with keen interest. A wild fox was on exhibition in front of Itced and Culpepper’s, on Tuesday afternoon. A chase will probably be gotten up. Hon. Henry G. Turner passed up tho road yesterday morning en route to Baconton, in Mitchell county, where lie spoke yesterday.
