The revolutionists have been sup- pressed. - _ _ Keepyobr eye on C. H. Young & Co.’s ‘‘ad." They are hustlers. Drop in and see their stock. Mr. Blaine wants free sugar in his'n. And a great many more would like to lake free sugar in thcre’n. . A cloud burst occurred right over |1ie city ot Macon, the other day. 5 he streets were converted into rivers. The fight between Call and Chipley ts still on. Peace, gentlemen; this is lire lime for democrats to be fighting earth other. Every day or two some congress- man’s head drops into the bloody bas- •iet. The guillotine is getting in its deadly work. The weather is loo hot to get excit ed about politics. Keep cool. This advice costs nothing ; but the lactdocs not detract from the value of the ad vice. lien Russel! led the Turner forces inthejjjjhtin Decatur; and he led ihent to victory. We always bank on Ben. He gefs there, everytime. lie never turns his back or. friend or foe. O— — Southern democrats, in tne face ot the danger which threatens them, can not afford to split Our salvation de pends upon preserving a united, un- Lands are advancing rapidl' in Col quitt county. The prospect of a rail road through there, is what has caus ed the advance. No county in the state is advancing in material pros perity more rapidly. Democracy will live long -After the sub-treasury ism and other new tstns ot the day are buried and forgotten. Democracy is the sheet anchor of our hopes. It would be well for ambitious politicians to remember these things. The senate' caucus, so it is said, will strike out the military feature, and the house to house canvas clause, from the force bill; but it will insist on the returning board feature. And this is the essence, the kernel of the measure. Will F. C. Wade contest the second district with Turner? That’s the ques tion. Mr. Turner can stag in Wash ington and fight Reed Co.; the democracy of the old second will pull him through. No doubt about it, Col. Hulsey, ot Atlanta, is no hog ; he knows when he has got enough of anything. He has dropped out of the race for congress, in the fifth distr ct. And Livingston smiles at the discom fiture of his opponents. This reminds us ot the old saying "that he who laughs last, laughs best.’’ The gubernatorial convention meets in Atlanta next Thursday. The poli ticians and alliancemen will be there in force. The fight between Nesbit and Henderson, for the commissioner- ship of agriculture, and the contest between Col. Anderson and Col. Les ter, for the attorney-generalship of the state, premises to be close. The Atlantic Coast Line is coming into Augusta. A new line is to be built into Augusta, which will shorten the distance between that city and New York something like seventy miles. Augusta is quite najurally very much elated at the prospect of having the new connection. Now -let the Augusta and West Florida- be pushed to completion, and Augusta wHIboom, sure enough. Gordon’s Popularity. A correspondent of the Atlanta Journa writes as follows from Cedar- town| I You ought to'liave been there. It was a day and scene never to be for gotten. Talk about the Alliancemen of Georgia being for anybody else than Gen. Gordon for the senate! There is not a word of truth in it. I am one of the original Alliancemen of this country and I was a Contederate sol dier. We know Gen. Gordon. We know what he was in war and what he has been in peace. We know what he is to-day—the ablest champion the farmers have in the union. We know how he has stood by us fighting in the senate and out of it against the cruel national bank system, against corpor ate and moneyed power, against trusts and combines and infavor of the great leading doctrines of our Alliance brotherhood for fifteen years. Now, Mr. F.ditor, you would not doubt the truth of this statement ilyou had seen these old soldiers, who are the leaders of the Alliance, when they saw him get off the cars, and heard the old rebel yell as it went up at almost every moment as they marched through the streets with Gem ral Gordon at tiieir head. But no language can convey an idea of the enthusiasm stir red by General Gordon in his great speech. Talk about beating John B. Gordon! Bosh. With the Corpse of Clements. Ed. Barrett, writing from Washing ton to the Constitution, says: The News of Mr. Clements’ with drawal lrom the congressional race in the seventh created great surprise here today. It was believed that he was absolutely certain of re-election, and now that the Alliance has forced him out fears are expressed here that Judge Crisp and Mr. Turner will be the only two members of the present Georgia delegation returned to the next > on- gress. The defeat ol no other con gressman could have caused such uni versal regret. Mr. Clements was re cognized as the ablest and most thor oughly equipped man on the approp riation committee. He was the only man in the house who was equipped to do the work of the committee which Mr. Randall did, and his defeat will not only be a loss to Georgia, but to the country. The question now is who will be next. Original Packages. Washington, July, jo.—The con ferees on ^the original package bill have agieed to report to their respec tive houses the Senate bill on the sub ject. That bill reads as follows: "That all fermented, distilled or intox icating liquors or liquids transported into any state or territory for use, con sumption, sale or storage, shat) on their arrival in such state or territory (or remaining therein) be subject to the operation and effect of the laws of such state or territory enacted in the exercise of the police powers to the same extent and in the same manner as though such liquor or liquids had been produced in such state or terri tory, and shall not be exempt there from by reason of being introduced in original packages or otherwise.” Democrats Praise Blaine. Lincoln, Nf.ii., July 30.—At the first district democratic congressional convention to day William J, Bryan, of Lincoln was nominated. A resolution was adopted in the convention, the purport of which is that the democrats assembled send greetings to James G. Blaine, and congratulations on his de nunciation of the McKinley bill. B.
