OOOP m Pickett has closed out his stock of groceries. Bring your job work to the Times- Enterprise office. Capt. E. M. Smith is again at home, after a short vacation spent in At lanta. Bend us interesting news items, in both town ami. country. The pear season is drawing to a close. Mr. and Mrs. John A, McKinnon spent yesterday in Pelham, the guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. I<. Hand. Misses Johnnie Sloan and Katie Winn left yesterday morning for At lanta, where they will spend several months. , Prof. A. Q. Moody passed • through here yesterday morning enroute to • the meeting of the State Agricultural •Society in LaGrange. • A gentleman received returns Irora a lot of pears yesterday, which hod been sold in New York. They netted the shipper 81.50 per crate. Pretty good. Will Mitchell writes John Mont gomery a characteristic letter from St. Teresa, where the former is spending sometime. Will, as he always does, is having a good time. Your local paper is doing every thing in its power, to build up and improve town and county. Show your appreciation of its efforts by patroniz ing it- _ - Messrs. I. Levy & Co., are not rat tled about trade this season. They are going to spread out, and will have a’dviSnty feet of ktore front, consisting of three stores, in the Mitchell House bloek. One way, and a mighty good one, to'Sell goods, i$ to advertise. This is no experiment. Printers ink—judi ciously used—never fails to pay. A good mauy merchants in Thomnsville might profitably try it. m The merchants of Thoiuasville will regret, before the season is over, that they didmot unite and put up a cot ton compress. We have urged this improvement for months, but it does not seem to have had any effect. All right. Quite a number of our citizens will go down to Monticello this morning Uptake iu the great base" ball game this afternoon, between Jacksonville and Monticello for the championship of the state and a purse. The gome promises to be a very interesting one. Dr. J. Marion Horrocks has secur ed a pleasant office over the store of the Slkssrs. Steyerman, on Broad St. The Joung Indy is a regular graduate ofone of the best medical colleges in the West. She will practice her pro fess ion here. Mr. Geo. W. Saxon, a prominent citizen of Tallahassee, was the guest Of Mr. T. J. Ball yesterday. Mr. Saxon is hopeful of seeing the missing railroad link between Tallahassee and Thomasville closed. The citizens of Tallahassee and Leon county have U4d*6ii^Diii>K like 835,000 of the 850,000 nccccssary to insure the road. Thomasville ond Thomas county should actively co-operate with our Florida friends in this matter. It is clearly to our interest to do so. We cannot afford to bo careless in matters Qt ibis kind. It isn’t business A RUNAWAY MATCH. Love’s Midnight Flight. About 3 o’clock on Monday morn ing, while policemen Brown and Gor don were keeping vigil over the sleep ing town, a couple drove rapidly down Broad street, the arc electric light disclosing a young man and a blushing maiden. “Can you tell me where the Ordin ary lives?” said the young man, as he glanced over his shoulder to see if any one was in pursuit. Policeman Brown, who is always ready to help nnyonc iu trouble, took in the situation at a glance, and promptly piloted the young couple to Judge Merrill’s residence. A few vigorous knocks brought the Judge to the door. Three o’clock in the morning is rather au unusual hour to issue “death warrants,” but the Judge keeps a few at his residence to use in case of emer gency ; and thi i appeared to be one of these cases. In a lew minutes the young man bad the necessary papery, when, with a palpitating heart, (wo suppose his heart was palpitating,) he sprang into the buggy and drove off. While the diamond dew drops still glittered on the grass, and the early song birds were trilling their morning lays, making the woods vocal with their music, ere the sun had kissed the tree tops on the distant hills, the couple drove up to the residence of Squire Tom Lewis, iu the lower end of the county, and soon the words were spoken which nmdc them twain for life. The groom is Mr. Robert Lee Futch, and the bride is Miss Jennie Asbcl, daughter of Noah Ashcl.a suc cessful and prosperous farmer in the 17th district. May fortune shower its choicest blessings on the young couple. Council Proceedings. August 11,1890. Council met in regular session, Mayor Hopkins presiding.
