Buy of peddlera as often and as much os possible. Denounce your merchants because they make it profit on their goods. Glory in the downfall of a man who has done much to build up the town. Make your town out a very bad place and stab it every chance you get. Refuse to unite in any scheme for the betterment of the material inter est of the people. Tell your merchants that you can buy goods a good deal cheaper in some other town and charge them with ex tortion. If a stranger comes to your town tell him everything is overdone, and predict a general crash in the town in {jje pear fqture. J£cep up divided public sentiment with you on the best method of in creasing business, When you have anything to say of your town say it in such a way that it will leave the impression that you have no faith in it. Patronize outside newspapers to the exclusion of your own, apd then de nounce yours for not being as large and cheap as the big city papers. If you are a merchant don t adver tise in the home paper, but buy a rub ber stamp and jpe it. It may save you a few dimes and make your le.tcr heads nud wrapping paper look as though you were doing business in n one-horse town. Call on your local paper when you want a free pufffor your own business or tor a public enterprise; but when you want job printing done for pay, give it to some other office. If you are a farmer, curse the place wherq you trade as the meanest on flaUti. Talk this tq yopr neighbors and tell them the business men are robbers and thieves. It will, make your proporty rauoh less valuable, but then you ddn't care. We commend tbo above, from tho Quitman Press, to the careful reading of ovory oitlzen of town and county. Lkii, Ga. p Aug. 14, 1890. Editor Timks-E.nterpiusk: Not seeing correspondence from anywhere except Ochlockonec, we have decided to give you a few dots. Leb is situated on the S. F. & W. Ity., between Thomasville and Cairo. \Ve have two merchants, Messrs. Me- Loy and Davis. They are doing a good business and have full stores Rev. J. T. Rider has been carrying on a series of meetings at Pierce’s chapel, near Mr. Tom Lane’s. While there was but one addition to the church, the community lias been greatly ben- efitted by Mr. Rider’s able sermons. Road working has been in vogue for several days. This community has the best roads of any community west of the river. We learn that our friend P , correspondent of the Southwest Geor gian, went fishiug a few days since and hung a trout so large that he. bad to go home and get a mule to pull him out. P says he tied him to a tree till he worried himself down, and caught two others, but one got away and he lost the other, and one lie used for bait. Mr. Fate Ballard has drained his fish pond, and everybody 1ms plenty of fish. It was thoroughly stocked with perch, etc. The farmers in this section arc in high spirits notwithstanding the rainy weather which has greatly damaged the cotton crop. The corn has not been better for years. The cotton crop will he about two-thirds of a crop. Mr. Casper Walker has the liuest corn crop the writer oyer saw. ffe has about five acres and expects to make about one hundred barrels This about supplies him all the year, and he makes his cotton crop clear, which is n good thing for farmers who want to make money, to pattern after. A petition has been circulated among our citizens to the proper au thorities of the S. F. & W, Ity., to se cure train service. It is to he hoped that it will ht granted, as we only get the accommndfttiqn train to stop, aud then it has to he "flagged down.” All we ask, gentlcmou, is train service, and you will he doubly paid in one year for your trouble. Real estate has gone up three dollars on the acre since the petition has lieen around. A gen- tleraau sold 12-5 acres of laud at the station for eight dollars per acre, when he would hayo bpen glad to get five before. The purchaser’s object was to plant raelous aud penra, but with past service we hi)vp had from the company it was no encouragement to anybody to go into the fruit and mel on growing, which would amount to several thousand dollars annually, if the shipping advantages were sufficient to encourage capitalists to lay out their money. It was said by some one a word to the wise is sufficient. Give us train service gentlemen, and try us awhflp, and S( -C |f yoq qre not the gainers in the bargain, J. O. C, A New Industry. Mr. Charley Williams, of the firm of Moore aud Williams, exhibited a substitute for hair, as used by plaster ers, on the street? yesterday. It was two bales of Nassau Adamont nud Plastering Fibre, and is made from the palmetto. Builders and plasterers say it is better than hair. It costs about the same, and goes very nearly twice as far. The fibre is very strong and perfectly clean. It is manufac tured by the Loomis Co., at Pernan- dena. Messrs. Moore aud Williams have the ageucy for this section of South Georgia, selling Albany, Bain- bridge and Valdosta, aud all interme diate points. This fibre was used in plastering the famous Ponce DeLeon hotel in St. Augustine. It will run hair out of the market for plastering purposes, so those say who have tried it. The ordinance of baptism was ad ministered at the Baptist church Sun day night, after a splendid sermon by Mr. Williams, to a largo and atten tive congregation. Parties interested in the construc tion of the road from Tallahossco to this place—and overy one should be interested in the proposed line—should seo Mr. A. C. Brown, or Mr. Robert E. Lester.
