At Rest.
Alice Green Blanton, wife of D. C.
Blanton, on last Sunday night, Aug.
17th, at nine o’clock, passed very
quickly from this life to a brighter
home above. She bare her long suf
fering with patience, never once com
plaining. Her suffering commenced
early in the spring, and for five
months she was not able to leave her
bed. She was faithfully attended all
through her illness by Dr. T. S.
Dekle, who did all for her that medical
skill could do to relieve her suffering.
She was surrounded in her last hours
by a host of anxious relatives and
friends, and the heart broken husband
never ceased his vigtlence by her side,
ever ready to do anything that he
thought would help her to bear her
trials. Mice .although never having 1
been connected with any church,
leaves evidence that is consoling to,
her devoted husband and relatives;
evidence that she has tound a
brighter home with her Savior, She
was born Sept, tsi, 1858 She was at
her death 31 years 11 monihs .-nd 17
days old. She leaves to the care of
her husband 5 children There is
seldom seen such devotion] between
husband wife as was witnessed a few
hours before death c'aitmd her She
seemed conscious to the last and tried
hard to talk after her speech left her.
She was aroused by her husband, and
asked for a kiss. She opened her
eyes and smilingly raised her lips to
him, but could not speak. In a tew
hours after her spirit was with the
angels.

For President of the Senate.
The Thomasville Times-Enter-
prise of yesterday announces that
Hon. Robert G. Mitchell, who will
represent the seventh senatorial dis
trict, composed of the counties of
Thomas, Brooks and Colquitt, in the
next General Assembly, will be a can
didate for Sneaker of the Senate.
Mr. Mitchell served in the Senate
during the session of 1885-1886, and
he made a splendid record. If there
was n member of the body that wield
ed more influence, or had' more
friends, his name and fame is not re
corded.
He enjoys the distinction of being
the only man in Georgia _ that had
strength enough to win against a can
didate brought out and endorsed by
the Alliance.
The wonderful personal magnetism
that is a part of his character, and his
unblemished record as a soldier,
legislator and a man, gained him
handsome victory over a gentleman
of his own county, well known and
popular, and that was an Alliance
man and voted for by the order.
Mr. Mitchell is n lawyer of fine at
tainments, a good parliamentarian,
has superb equipoise and would make
a model presiding officer.
In sneaking of his candidacy the
Times-Enterprise suggests that
South Georgia ought to receive some
recognition from the rest of the com
monwealth, and cites the fact, known
and read of nil men, that upper Geor
gia is in the habit of monopolizing all
of the offices.
The Times, while acknowledging
the truth of the claim, is disposed to
placo Mr. Mithell’s candidacy on
a higher plane. His own character
and attainments are his best recom
mendation, for there is not in all our
grand old state a knightlier represen
tative of her courage, her purity, her
honesty, than Robert G. Mitchell of
the county of Thomas.—Americus
Daily Times.
The town of Marion, N. C, has been
doing some advertising this summer.
And it will pay. Mr. Hitchcock, who
has had charge of the advertising says
that the advertising bill for the Ma
rion auction sale of lots would be in
theneighbordoodof811,000, most of
which is spent with the newspapers.
He says money spent with the news
papers is like bread thrown upon the
waters, it always comes hack. There
is a lesson in this for Thomasville and
other towns. A regular appropria
tion should be made every year for
advertising the town.

Only three cases were awaiting
Mayor Hopkins on his arrival at the
police court yesterday morning.
Bob Coleman plead guilty to fight
ing, and was fined $5 and costs.
Julia Wright, one of the sharpest
characters the police have to deal
with, was up again for disorderly con
duct. The evidence was hardly
enough to convict, and she was given
the benefit of the doubt.
The only other case was for fast
riding, in which the arresting officer
failed to make out a case, and the de
fendant was discharged.

Lclatox, Ga,
Dear Sir—This is to certily tba. I was a
sufferer with a place on my under lip for
fourteen years, and was under treatment of
different physicians, but they done me no

living in Florida, wbo treated them by art.
After going to him it got well, apparently,
for awhile, but returned as bad ns ever, 1
