As will be seen elsewhere, Mr.
Johnson announces himself ns a can
didate for re-election to the office of
coroner of Thomas county, at the en
suing election in January, subject to
the action of the democratic party.
Berry Johnson is a dyed in the wool
democrat, and he cheerfully submits
his claims to the office to his party.
Mr. Johnson has filled the office for
several ycais past, and ho has filled it
with satisfaction to the people and
public. He is always prompt to re

perform his duty. If nominated and

It isn’t often that we inflict on the
readers of the fuiES-ExTERi’RiSB
what others say of the paper, hut the
following from the Atlanta Journal
must prove the exception to the rule
Tho Journal, in its issue of the 22d
inst., says:
The Thomasvillc Tim es-Enteri'iiise
is doing splendid work for strnightout
democracy.
Its cry is down with independents
—and it is right. Democrats must
stand by the democratic uomiuces.
That is the only true course.
The Times-Entebprise, by the
way, is q splendid little daily and is
worth the weight of its press iu gold to
the city of Tlionmsville.
A Link in the Augusta Road
Secured.
The Telegraph says:
It is reported that the Ceutral rail
road lias sold it3 interest iu the
Wrightsville and Tennille railroad to
the Bailey syndicate for 870,000.
This syndicate is building a railroad
from Augusta to Tlionmsville, and
would have been compelled to parallel
the above road; lienee the purchase.
It is gratifying to hear the numer
ous compliments paid the job work
turned out from this office. Wc strive
to please all by giving good material
and doing first class work at low rates.
Wo have been requested by Char-
man Bulloch, of roads and bridges,
to call attention to a practice which is
prevailing iu many sections of tho
countv, by wdiich the side ditches
along the public roads arc filled up lo
nmkc crossings. These obstructions
causes the water to leave the chan
nels cut for it, and forces it out into
the roads, thereby injuring them bad
ly. He hopes this practice will le
stopped.
From the Camilla Clarion :
Miss Dora Deklc, a charming and
fascinating young lady of Thomas
villc, is visiting Mrs. \V. A. Hurst, at
the Hotel Georgia.
Mr. J. D. A. McLelln’u says he has
the best cotton crop he has ever made.
He thinks of moving to Thomnsville or
Camilla to educate his fine crop of
boys.
Iiev. T. A. Whit-3, an able divine,
well known to many of our readers,
lms been called to the pastorate of the
Baptist church at Boston, Ga. Rev.
J. M. Rushin, than whom no better
man can ho found, who has served
the church so long and earnestly, de
clined io serve longer.
While leaving Boston for this place
late Friday afternoon, Conductor
Cleveland discovered a negro enter
ing a londed box car. He waited
qntil the train reached the 195 mile
post nml then stopped and arrested
the coon, who appears to ho about
eighteen years of age. On arriving
here lie was turned over to tho police
and locked up. Tho railroad will
prefer charges against him. It is not
known whether Ins object was plun
der or to steal a ride, but ns there was
plenty of empty ears iu the train, his
preference fora loaded car looks sus
picious.
Several new residences are going up
in Ochlockonce. Ochlockoneo is a
growing town. Wo take both pleas
ure and pride iu noticing the growth
aud prosperity of Thomas county
towns. Few counties in tho state
have more prosperous and progressive
towns tlmu Thomas. Anil while these
towns arc growing, it is also true tlmt
the country proper—the men who
toil and sivoat, who sow and reap, are
growing iqqre prosperous every year.
The farmers ofThomos county are in
n hatter condition than qny year since
the war. They arc economizing, l’v-
iug at home, and paddling their own
canoes. And in this course lies the
secret of theirsuccess.
