A novel entertainment, known as a “Progressive Conversation Party, was given Thursday evening, at the hospitable home of Mr. T. J. Ball, on Dawson street, complimentary to Miss Ola Mallette. The following young ladies and gentlemen mingled in the lively scenes and talked os if their reputa tion for intelligence depended upon the result: Misses Ola Mallette, May Ainsworth, Cora Walker, Willie Baker, Emmie McIntosh, Lula Harley, Cora Cassels, Kate Ball, Lillie Smith and Emma McIntosh; and Messrs. After an hour of extremely animated conversation the lady’s prize was awarded to Miss Cora Cassels, and the gentleman’s prize to Mr. B. F. Hawkins. Elegant refreshments were then sjrved. The spacious rooms and halls were tastefully ornamented with a profusion of lovely flowers and ever greens, and the house shone with the subdued light of Chinese lanterns. M. Endorsing “Bob" Mitchell. Wc find tho following in the Corn stitntion of tho 28th inst: A well-known citizen of southwest Georgia said yesterday. “In figuring ou probabilities in the race for the presidency of the next senate, don’t forget Hon. Robert G. Mitchell, of Thomasville, who has been nominated for the senate, and who will be one of the strongest men iu that body. He has already announced his candi dacy for the presidency of that body, and his friends have begun earnest efforts in his behalf. He was n gaj- lant soldier, and made a splendid record in the state senate some years ago. A thorough parliamentarian, popular with everybody who knows him, he is a magnificent man in every respect, and would make a presiding officer of whom the senate would feel justly proud.” It is very gratifying to tho friends of My, Mitphcll to note the favorable manner in which tho announcement of his candidacy for tho senate lias been received all over the state. It attests his universal popularity. Eminently fitted for the high position to which ho aspires, he would bring to the discharge of the duties of tho po sition, all the elements which go to make up an impartial and able pre siding officer. His record, when in the senate, four years ago is without spot or blemish. Everything looking to the advancement and prosperity of the laboring classes, as well as «f all classes, had in him, at all times, a fearless and intrepid ohampion. Notice to Road Overseers.
