The Brunswick Daily Times says: "The Times ventures the assertion that Atlanta’s wonderful prosperity is duo more largely to her factories than to any other material enteprises, and that it is due ns much to her small factories, each employing few hands, but, in the aggregate, employing many, as to her large institutions. Thoraasvillc ought—aud could— establish a dozen small manufacturing enterprises. At the last meeting of council in Cairo, Alderman Wight moved to ask bids for putting out 400 live oaks iu the town. This wise action of Alderman Wight is respectfully re ferred to our city fathers. There are many bare streets in Thomasvillo which could be beautified by the planting out of trees along the sido walks. C. H. Young & Co. Mr. Dyer, night operator at Alba ny, was in the city yesterday. *** The Savannah and Montgomery train went out an hour or more late yesterday. *** A couple of Union Tank Line Oil cars were side-tracked at tho depot yesterday. *** The inspector of the electric clocks, which are regulated from Washington and which are generally used by the railroad companies, was in tho city yesterday looking after the clock at the depot. V The low rate to Tyhee did not in duce many to go down to the Island yesterday. *** Heavy engines have been put on the run between Savannah aud Bain- bridge. *** Operator Hughson is still enjoying his vacation in Virginia, but will pro bably return shortly. *** The people of Colquitt county liv ing along the line of the Tifton and Thomasville railroad survey have been assured by tho railroad authori ties that the road would be completed in time to transport n melon crop next year, and the farmers over there are going to plant a heavy crop next season. Better Mail Facilities for Cairo. Editor Wight, of the Southwest Georgian, has been stirring up things about the poor facilities accorded Cai ro. From the following letter it will be seen that Mr. Wight’s agitation has borne fruit: Mr. J. B. Wight, Pub. Southwest Georgian, Cairo, Ga. Sir: My attention has been called to an article in your issue of the 22nd ultimo expressing a desire for addi tional mail service by early morning train. I have this date issued neces sary instructions to postal clerks leav ing Wnycross 1:35 a. m., train No. 6, to make a pouoh for Cairo and dis patch in charge of baggagomen from Thomasville. W. Glading returned yes terday morning from a business trip to Columbus and other points. It is hoped that the reported changes in the Monon route, by which the E. T, V. & G. Ry., will coutrol the system, will not effect the office here, as Mr. Glading has done good work for Thomasville and the system he repre sents, but it is very probable that the change may effect the office here. Rev. J. H. Herbener, who has been taking his summer vacation, will resume his duties next Wednesday evening, being the regular weekly prayer meeting night of that church, The Sabbath is—or should be—a day of rest.
