Funerals, as ordinarily conducted, are a great expense and the burden upon the poor is very heavy. Yet. according to custom, they think they must ‘put on style,’ as it were. Our labors are large among the poor, and if we can lighten their burdens by freeing them from the bonds of useless and foolish customs we should do so.
