Mr. Editor : Our little town is quiet, ami our merchants are doing a good business. They arc making large orders in order to meet the demands ot fall and winter. Our fnrmcrs are busy picking cot ton, and notwithstanding the low prices aiul short crops, they will make some money. Hon. Isaac Alderman has the best cotton the writer has seen this year. He lias some that will make a bale to the acre. That is good farming for a bad crop year. Corn and cane crops arc all good. If anything they aro above an aver age. Mr. Jesse Siringcr and wife nre spending some time in the communi ty. Wc are glad to announce that Mr. S. is rapidly convalescing from typhoid fever. Last Saturday a party went down ou the river near Adam’s lake, where they spent an enjoyable day fishing, etc. Well, Mr. Editor, our brother farm ers have [been so busy talking phos phate that none of them would say anything about old Mr. Jute or little Billy Cotton cither, but wc think if they would remember that it would take 84,000 bales of cotton to cover the average cotton crop, besides the other coverings needed, such as sacks, etc, they would give little Billy a thought- If anyone who has statistics would take the time they could write an interesting communication, as we intimated before. The farmers of Georgia could take stock sufficient i in a set of mills to manufacture all the baggiug they wish, besides the guano, corn, etc., flour sacks and such articles they need, instead of having to pay large dividends to some one else. Cotton bagging cost 12A cents per yard, but we cau buy cheeked homespun at six and seven cents per yard, which cost more than the half woven bagging, while it is but 36 in. wide, the bagging is ouly H in. which ought not make so much difference. We have heard nothing from the petition to the S., F. & W. By., for traiu service, which }s needed very much. It is called a Hag station, but the authorities will not stop any train except the freight train. Many times the citizens and merchants have to go to Thomnsville or elsewhere, and have to go by private conveyance, because they cannot get accommodation from the R. R. Co. J. O.
