Two days without rain.
Cotton was pouring in yesterday
pretty lively. _____
Mr. Abe Simons, of Monticello, was
in the city yesterday.
Mr. J. J. Witt, of Brunswick, was
at the Gulf yesterday.
Mr. Crawford Stegall,of Baiubridge
was in the city yesterday.
Engineer J. C. Hair is making
aomo handsome additions to his resi
dence in Fletcherville.
Quite a lot of Keiffer pears are be
ing shipped north from here now.
They bring 85 per barrel.
Mr. John Eason, who has the con
tract for the crcctioL of a school
building at Summer Hill, says he will
complete the job next week.
Gardeners should be vigilant in
growing every variety of vegetables
adapted to the season. Everything in
the vegetable line will be in demand
this winter.
Mr. W. M. Rceso has discovered
phosphate on his place two miles from
Thomasville and says it is in large
quantities. This is nearer town than
any yet reported.
The local in yesterday’s issue refer
ring to Mr. Frauk I’inkard as being
connected with Levy’s Dry Goods
House was a mistake. He is with H.
WolfT Sc Bro._ _
Dr. John H. Coyle is pushing work
on his suburban residence on the Lin
ton mill road. The site is a lovely
one, and when completed the Doctor
will have one ot the most desirable
homes around the city.
A party of gunners pave the hats
quite a lively time Tuesday afternoon,
on Carroll Hill. Fourteen was the
highest number killed by any one
shooter, but twenty-nine birds were
the total score for four guns.
Dr. R. Q. Mallard, of New Orleans,
is visiting relatives and friends in
Thomas. He will preach in the Pres*
byterian church next Sunday. Those
who have ever heard him will need
no further inducement to attend than
the mere announcement that he will
preach.
Mr. A. A. Singletary.
This gentleman announces himself
this morning for the office of sheriff of
Thomas county. Mr. Singletary is a
young man born and raised in Thom*
as county and is a son of Mr. Crayton
Singletary. He is well and favora
bly known as one of the steady, sober,
upright young men of the county, and
is fully capable of filling the impor
tant office of sheriff to the entire satis
faction of all. Mr. Singletary is an
alliauceman but is not put in the field
by the allianoe nor docs he announce
himself as such. Like a true demo
crat, he submits his claims to the ac
tion of the democratic primary, and
will faithfully abide its decision.
The Boulevard.
Mr. H. H. Sanford, who lias uover
ceased to work for the completion of
the boulevard, speaks hopefully of
the final and early completion of the
work. The right of way, except from
the Irwinvillc to tho Boston road, has
long since been secured. This missing
link is in a fair way of being ob
tained, and things look favorable for
the early opening and completing of
the entire road.
Patten Patterings.
Patten, Ga., Sept. 15,1890.
Editor Times-Ektermisb
Married—At the residence of the
bridcs’s father, Mr. John Kennedy, on
Sept. 4th, near Enon church, by Rev.
J. M. Odom, Miss Theodocia Kenne
dy to Mr. Andrew Parramore. May
this, the morning of their wedded
bliss, dawn bright and beautiful, and
may its sun set only in the late even
ing of old age unclouded.
We learn that Jimmie, daughter of
our esteemed citizen, Addison Way,
Esq., was married at Naylor, Ga., to
a gentleman by the name of Carter.
We did not learn when and by whom.
Our citizens are doing their part to
wards replenishing this par; of the
earth; two little strangers nrrived
last week to make parents and homes
happy. Mr. Hoseali Vann proudly
jumps a fine boy on his knee, while
Mr. Jesse Davis sings pBalms to his
fifth girl.
Our farmers arc gloomy over the
continued rains. There is a great
deal of cotton in the fields yet, and it
is being badly damaged by rain
Mr. Cooper Smith, one of the prom-
inent farmers of Enon section was at
Patten last week. He told your cor
respondent that the com and pindar
crops wero very good, but that cotton
was badly damaged in his neighbor
hood.
The Quitman Lumber Company
are pushing their road rapidly towards
McDonald. They already have it
completed up to the Coflee road. We
cannot see why the road will not prove
beneficial to McDonald and the citi
zens along the line.
Mr. Frank Carter, our syrup barrel
man, has 400 barrels for thoss who
need them. Farmers better note
this.
Will not our efficient tax collector
divide time with us at Patten. He will
have nothing but the earth for a seat
and the sky for shelter at the old
court ground. Come aloDg, our
friend, and divide with us; we will
take care of you at Patten. Wo make
this suggestion for the benefit of oth
ers, not for Raymond. We will be
in with our mite two days before the
books close, perhaps.
We had a pcop into the plnce where
the editor sighs nnd sins last week. It
is too magnificent for a cracker to
gaze at, and is calculated to make him
dissatisfied with his lot. Why, we
almost wished the editor was dead
and in heaven, and we had his talent,
his brain, his influence, his job nnd,
above all, his good name.
The'“Blue Darter” man scents to be
in a tight plnce. Here’s what he says:
“While yon are rending down this column,
And your gold in rollers rust,
Remember, please, that we are needy,
And remit that $1,00 to us.’’
Pro*. R. C. Ingalls informs us that
the fall term of his school will com-
mence at the McGrow Academy, Sept.
27th. Pupils and pntions will hear
in mind.
Raymond.
The Stock Show and Picnic.
We would again remind the owners
of horses and colts aud those friendly
to stock raising, of the exhibit on the
12th of Nov. If every colt under
three years ol age, and every credi
table homo raised horse in this and
adjacent counties were paraded on
Broad street that day, the exhibit
would command the admiration of
every one present, and do more to
stimulate stock raising at home than
all the arguments that could bo
offered through the press or from the
rostrum. Will not every one who has
a colt or a Georgia or Florida raised
horse or mule, bring it to town that
day. It will not be much trouble,
and if you should not win the pro
mium you will help out the exhibit
and prove your home pride. Bring
your stock that day and let every
body see what has been and what can
be done jn the way of . stock raising
in this section.
We would also urge all the citizens
of the oouiiiy to adopt tho suggestion
of the Association by uniting in a
grand basket picnic at tho park on
that day.. One day spent among your
neighbors and friends and in forming
now acquaintances will be both pleas
ant and profitable. Lot everybody
come that day. Bring your baskets,
your colts, your horses and your
mules, and have a big time. Re
member the day, Nov. 12th, and
"don’t you forget it.”

“Not only Cheap, but also Good!’
(Do you realise the difference
between the ordinary made hah
and the nice styles we handle ?
You may think this differ-
cnee is of no moment, hut it is
really the difference between
good tastes and indifferent tastes,
between being well dressed and
-poorly dressed.
While others try to shciv you
how fictitiously cheap their
Millinery is, we strive to con
vince you of tho excellence oj
ours, as well as low prices.
“Actual merit,” you see, is what
we rely on to win and retain
your custom.
