Boston Correspondent S«vsnnnk News. Boston, Ga., Sept. 17.—Much has been said by correspondents through tho columns of the Morning News recently about phosphates in Thomas county. The first' mention made of phosphnte in this section was an article referring to the supposed phosphate bed on the lands of Dr. M. R Mallette, near Boston, that appear ed in the Morning News, and which was copied into other papers of the state without due credit to the Morn ing News. This item attracted the attention of phosphate seekers, who sent prospectors to investigate, the re- suit of which is the purchase by Dunwoody Jones, agent for a syndi cate ot Atlanta capitalists, of the Pleasant Foy farm, near Boston, on which the first available phosphate beds were located. A SIIIPJ(EN3> TO ATLANTA. From this bed a carload of phos-r phale rock was shipped to Atlanta two or three weeks ago to be put to the test of mills and apids, the result of which would give indubitable evi dence of the actual value of the beds, and the yield per ton of ore of pure phosphate, and fix its commercial value also. The result obtained from this carload has not been made public, but it must be highly satisfactory, as Mr. Jones has since then purchased options on several farms adjoining the FoyPlaco and bdngty'Jjlbtf^M for some othew, paying good prices for them. Mr, Jones has endeavored to deceivo or defraud no ono. but has candidly told all that ho wanted phos phate lands, and was willing to pay what they are' worth for "phosphate. The Foy place contains about 13Q acres, and sold foy John B. Bason sold about 200 acres for $8,000, taking a portion of this (so I learn, but not from Mr. Eason,) in stock in the syndicate, Tpo PAR flOWN TO REACH. Phosphate of good quality, and in seemingly large quantity, has been found on several farms near those above named, hut, on most of them, at too great a depth to be properly mined. This same vein is said to be trapeablo foy TOfiny ipilps jn Florida, south and southeast of Boston. On the farm of Mr. a T. Hopper, about four miles north of Boston, phosphate rook is found in abundanoe on the surfaoo of and Just under the soil. No examination has been made to ascertain the depth or extent of it, but the quantity is evidently very great, as it crops out in many places on the farm, covering several hundred acres. 4° MftbTOS fit 1 °f this ropk senf fa' Charleston, shows it quite a valuable one, containing 53 per cent, of available hone phosphate The ©chool J3a/ys A.re Here Again.
