A Boy’s Essay on Cats.
I lie following is vouched for by
I\ic-i as a boy’s essay on cals. It is
all true, cieiy word ol it, and no doubt
voxes the sentiments of the average
small bov everywhere in relation to the
comparative merits of dogs and caw ;
‘■I’d rather ! avc a dog than a cat
any day. Dogs can race cats, they
cm race other dogs-, they cart race
boys, nr at.5 thing. No odv ain’t s-card
o’ a rat. A mouse is, but not if it ain’t
s micv Imre ihat it can’t get cut of, or
a rat - ttln r. A dog can make a cat
drtad 'f I e b-trs her enough. When
he cnme !n 'he yard he can make her
tail look I ke a Christmas tree. He
can make ’• cr fix her back up hkc a
camel. It ain’t afraid of thieves, but
thieves are alratd of dogs. If a '.hief
comes where a dog can get at him,
he'll run like the doost, but the dog
won’t run. A dog can watch a house
better than a policeman. He won’t let
the man that owns it come in the back
yard in the middle of the night; but a
cat would. Jf a man, or any oth r
thief, was to sneak in, would a cat
care ? She’d go over the lence like
lightning. That’s what. A dog knows
when you’re borne from school. He
ain’t sleepy then. He has fun with
old hats, if you give hi« one. You’ve
got to pay for keeping him, but you
don’t a cat, because a dog’s some
good and a c U ain’t. I’d rather have
a dog.”
