When you get married to the bright est and best girl in the county, where did you look for that notice that meant so much to you and so little to nearly everybody else? To your Home Paper. When your home was invaded by the blue-eyed girl or the baby boy, to whom did you make it your busi ness to convey early information as to the sex, the time aud the weight. To the editor of the Home Paper. In after years, when some manly fellow takes the blue-eyed girl to a home of his own, or your ouco bounc ing boy—now a man—is given a part nership in the store, because he has just brought home somebody clse’s daughter and set up an establishment of his owu, to whom do you personally exhibit the wedding presents and load up with the bride’s cake, and lo whom do you look for that complete descrip tion of the interesting event, down to the last pickle fork and individual salt, which once more means so much to you and a very lew others, and so little to everybody else? To this same editor of that same Home Pa- 1 And wlicu trouble comes in the home, and you add to your possessions that desolate bit of realty, the lot in tbo cemetery, und somehow the sun doesn’t seem to shine just as it used to, and there’s the flutter of crape at the door and the odor of the tuberose in the front parlor, and the chair that has for years been beside yours at the fireside and opposite you at the table is vacant—when all this happens, who makes it his business to write in ten der strain of the one whoso life had grown to lie a part of yours, and whose sympathy and good deeds to others have long been known and recognized, if ucver publicly announced? The editor of the Homo Paper; and he’s only too willing to do the little that he can to help you over the bard spot iu the road. And all these years have you adver tised in this Homo Paper and done what you could to help the editor fight your battles in municipal and county matters, and encouraged him os lie has worked to build up the town and bring business to it?—Exchange. Dead. The following from the Savannah Nows, will ho read with interest by tho Thomasville friends of Mrs. Tut tle: •‘Mrs, Lamar, wife of United States Commissioner Frank Lamar, died in this city yesterday morning after a protracted illness. The deceased was a native of Florida, and tho daughter of the late Capt. L. K. Tuttle, well known in railway circles in the south. Mr. and Mrs. Lamar wero married in Florida last winter. Mrs. Tuttle, mother of tho deceased, was with her daughter during her illness The re mains will be interred in the family burying ground in Jacksonville, Fla. Mrs. Lamar mado many friends dur ing the few months she resided in this city, who sympathize with the bereav ed husband and mother. Mr. George A. Smith and wife, nee Miss Mamie Wright, arc iu the city. Mr. Smith returns to Macon this morning, but Mrs. Smith will re main hero sometime. Mr. James Harris, of Columbus, who has been spending a few days in the city, returned home yesterday. Cairo Dots. Editor Tihes-Enterpsise There is considerable rivalry exhib ited between the two sections of our town divided by tbo railroad. On one sido is a sign bearing the inscription “Goods at New York prices; must sell;” on the other side is n counter sign with the inscription, "New York prices knocked out; goods at Cairo prices.” Both sides are having a rush of trade, showing that it pays to ad vertise, even though done by signs. At a negro festival a few miles northwest of here, in Decatur county, on Saturday night, Dan Wilson was stabbed in sovernl places, by Wade Tone. At a preliminary hearing be fore Justices Davis and Clark, on Monday, Tone was committed to jail to answer to the charge of assault with intent to murder. Dr. Walker at tended the wounded darkey, ami says he is in a critical condition and not likely to live. Sheriff Patterson came over Tues day to take charge of Tone, who had been committed to jail the day be fore. Lawyer Nusshaum, of the lirm of Hawes & Donalson, of Bainbridge, was over on Monday to represent tho prosecution in the Tone case. Prof. J. M. Glenn is taking a cen sus of our town. The unofficial re port given out by the census enumera tor for this district as to tho popula tion of Cairo wns so far below the ex pectations of our people that the Prof, has taken the matter in hand, and will take a true census ot our little burg. Tho Mayor’s docket for lost week shows ten cases were before his Honor, mostly for disorderly conduct and drunkenness. A pretty good showing for Cairo. But tho number of oficnd- cra will not seem so large, when outsi- ders learn that by nctual count there werj 5 or G hundred people in town on Saturday, aud at ienst onc-third of then were strangers from a distance, who came here to do their trading, and as a matter of course, had to have a little “fire-water.” The recent improvements made to tho City Hall by J. M. Miller, con tractor, has added much to tho looks of that building, as well as to the com fort of those who have business there. Wc take pleasure in announcing to the young meu of our little burg, that wa havo employed a first class intei- prater, and arc now ready to translate into the purest English any lovely lit tle billetdoux they may receive from their best girl, who persist in express ing their aflections in another Ian* guage. Fees moderate, and satbfac- tion guaranteed. George Forester, John Hay, Prof. Cardin and Retnur Singletary, all prominent planters and farmers of the 17th, were in town to day, Herndon Brandon, of tho Arm of Morehouse & Brandon, of Thomas- ville, was shnking hauds with our merchants to-day. Miss Julia Griffin, one of Decatur’s accomplished young ladit-B, returned yesterday from a visit to relatives and friends in Albany. Miss Hattie Ramsey, a lovely youug lady of Thomasville, is visiting the family of Rev. G. T. Hurst. The vote for state officers to-day will bo light, J.H.S. Surburban Storey. Ono of the best indications of a city’s growth is the number ot small suburban stores sepn, A ride around town, not iu the fashionable iqiinrtori;, but out where tho masses of working peoplo live, is the place to sec these little corner stores. They do not carry- largo stocks, usually their eutiro wealth is between $50 and $300, but they do a good business iu a small way. They buy their goods from a local jobbing house, and scarcely ever deal with the drummer. Some of the proprietors are white, a few China men, and others uegroes. Ail entire family usually tnko turns iu waiting on customers, and a woman is more frequently found behind the counter than a man. There arc probably two dozen of these stores in Thomasville. Mr. Allie Pringle has returned from a trip to Troy, Dothan, and other growing Alabama towns along tho Alabama Midland. Mr. Warner Culpepper and family, of Brinson, w«re gucstL ol the Gulf yesterday. The School Days A.re Here JLgain. And we respectfully call attention of parents to our excellent stock of 23037"© S/TTLCL Misses Ser^iCSbTole ScIto-OOl Siloes, bought cheaply and to be sold cheaply.
