Well, the state election is over. It is now “Governor Northern” ‘•John Brown’s body lies moulder ing in the ground,” in the Adiron dack;. The man who will invent a boot jack which will never miss a cat has a fortune in store. ^ Blaine told the Atlanta delegation yesterday, that, if possible he would atteud the Piedmont Exposition. Georgia will give Mr. Blaine a genuine Southern welcome, if he comes to the Piedmont Exposition. There is a man in Georgia who traces his ancestry hack farther than this: he is a lineal descendant of Adam. Hon. H. G. Turner will he at home this week- He has stood faithfully at his post during the long session of congress. Grace—What air was that you were playing last night? Laura—A millionaire, and I land ed him! What Work has Been Accomplished by Mr. B. W. Wronn. The Travelers’ Official Railway Guide says: “The paths of general railway advertising have been well trodden, and new departures are of difficult achievement. In the wideiy distributed cartoon, recently issued by Mr. B. W. Wrcnn, general passenger agent of the East Tennessee, Virginia aud Georgia Railway, this has been accomplished. The work, being from the pen of Thomas Nast, is, of course, of the best. The cartoon is really a sort of allegorical representation of the various duties of a general passen ger agent, especially when he has under his care the interests of such an extensive system ns that which Mr. Wrcnn represents. Mr. Wreun is depicted—the likeness is a fair one— as calling the attention of the public to A map allowing the routes of his line anil its immediate connections, and picturing to them the various interests for which the company must care. As a motto the following wcll- clioscn words, of Air. Wreun arc ap pended : ‘Gentlemen, you arc at this moment standing in the gateway that leads to the South. The wealth that is there, hidden no longer from hu man eyes, flashes in your very faces. You can smell the roses of new hope that fill the air. You can hear the heart-beats of progress that come as upon the wings of heaven. You can reach for your hands and nlmost clutch the gold that the sun rains down with his beams as he takes his daily journey between the cotton field and the coal mine; the highlands of wood and iron, of marble and granite; the lowlands of tobacco, sugar and rice, of corn and kinc, of wine, milk and honey.” “Copies of the cartoon may be had on application to Mr. Wrenn, at Knoxville, Tenn.” &EO. Mr. E. Burd Grubb, of N. J , has been appointed Minister to Spain. Dick Grubb, of Darien, would make n better representative abroad. Some people iu Georgia seem to tbink the safest place, duiing the pre sent political battle, is ou the fence. Somebody will get knocked oft the fence about the close of the fight. The echoes from tho election arc uot very loud. Georgia should have polled a large vote. But then, with an exception here and there no op posing tickets were in the field: hence the light vote. Tho Brunswick Times says: When a tramping Illinois boss is able to compass the defeat ot Cover nor Gordon, it is time for the Demo cratic party in Georgia to shut up shop. “Beware of women!” cxlaiins a brilliant French writer; “if they do not crown you they will strangle you." Yet reason can do little against the torce of beauty: the first impulse, the irresistible instinct of a man’s nature is the homage .to physical beauty. It has a mystic power that sweeps down all before it, the strongest aud wisest So says one who has, doubtless, been swept down the matrimonial rapids, and over connubial falls. An Immortal Trio. Genius never dies, Homer is still enthroned upon Mount Paruassas. Dante still reigns the monarch of Italian poetry. Shakespeare has received the willing homage of mil lions for nearly three hundred years. Of oil the men who have delighted or instructed mankind, Shakespeare has the best chance for immortality. The human heart is the same in all Oges and in all countries, and none knew the human heart so well as Shakespeare. No other writer has ever, to use his own happy expression, “held the mirror up to nature” as I10 has 1 —Ex. Where the Money Goes.
