The men who advertise menu business. Everything points to a large num ber of visitors in Thomnsville this win ter. We understand that a new jewelry store will be opened at the Pickett stand on Broad street. See advertisement a desirable su burban farm containing 12 acres, and having a good house on it, to rent. Do not forget that the Thomnsville Marble Works are turning out first- class work; aud at moderate prices. Some of the candidates for county officers favor holding the primary at the regular election in November. It would bring out a full vote, We regre' to learn that Mr. J. A. Sherrod, living near McDonald, lost his gin house, two gins and eight bales of cotton, by fire, on Wednesday As no fire had been about the gin house for some time, it is thought the house was set on fire. LOOKING GULFWARD. Another Outlet for Thomasville. Thomnsville, in nil probability, will ere long be joined to the waters of the Gulf by bands of steel. The Thom asville correspondent of the Constitu tion, writes as follows under date of (October 1st, touching the latest rail road move in that direction : An important meoting of the Tulin- has*ee aud Northern rond was held by the projectors in this city last night. Mr. George Buxou, of Tallahassee, and It. L. Bennett, of Philadelphia, were among those present. The road is to be built from Tallahassee to this place, connecting here with the Georgia Southern and Florida, aud the Savan nah, Florida aud Western railroads. While the proposed road will be ot greater importance to Tallahassee than Thomasville, there is no doubt hut that it will also be a great benefit to this place. A number of Philadelphia capitalists have proposed to build the road if tbc citizens trill show proper encouragement. Taking iuto consid eration the fact that Thomasville has already given terminal facilities to one road, now building, to their place, and subscribed 350,000 to au- othcr, they only ask that the right-of- way be granted them. The Constitu tion correspondent had a talk with Mr Beuuett. who is representing the Philadelphia capitalists in the matter, and he says he lias met with the most encouraging success, and tho building of the road is assured. Nearly all that the company asked, has already been granted, and the people of Tal lahassee arc very enthusiastic over the prospect of such a splendid outlet os a road connecting here with two great independent lines would give them. Thomasville promises soon to become one of the principal railroad centers of the state. With the Havamiab, Florida and Western, the Georgia Southern and Florida, the Augusta and West Florida, the Tallahassee and Northern, and numerous branch divisions, she will have railroad facil ities unequaled by any town in tho When children cry with stomach ache, it is a great relief to the mother to know (hat Lamar’s Diarrhica Mixt ure will promptly relieve the pain—es pecially it she has it in the house. NOTES FROM PATTEN. Death of Mrs. O’Neal-Other News, Etc. Kditor Timks-Estzupbise: At her home near McDonald, on last Friday, thc^26th inst., the damp and chilly winds of death wafted to a better and brighter world, to the arms of a faithful and loving Jesus, the spirit of Mrs. Jinccy O’Neal, tho wife of Mr. Henry O'Neal. The body was interred on Saturday, at Lebanon church, the funeral ceremonies con ducted by Rev. T. A. White. The deceased was born Nov. 5, 1815, and had been a consistent member of the Bnptist church for CO years. No sor- ' rowing one ever turned from her un consoled. With the word of God ns her guide, she was enabled to walk safely the road of life, pass trium phantly the Jordan of death, 10 rest forever inside the pearly gates of im mortality, where the weary do rest from their labors. • The deceased was the mother of ten children, seven living and three dead. Mny that ever merciful God who do- eth all things well, who taketh life nnd stayeth the breakers of death at His will, comfort tho aged and sorrow ing husband, bereaved children and weeping friends, and may the dreaded truth “I too must die” sink deep in every breast. Rev. T. A. White has accepted the call, and will continue to preach the pure and unadulterated gospel at Sa lem church, every fourth Sunday and Saturday before. Rev. J. P. McCann has accepted the care of Summer Hill church for the next year. Mr. Joshua Mims was at Salem Sunday. Uncle Josh is that same model of smiling good humor, every time you meet him. Rev. Sam P. Jones will go for sin and camp fire at Wilmington, N. C., Oct. 5. If tho unseating of democratic con gressmen prevails in the next congress like it has in this, the United States will be in a fair way to ho a govern ment of Reed, for Reed nnd by Reed. Mr. T. P. Buntin hus returned from a trip to Milledgeville. Ho was shown through the insane asylum, and was well pleased with the arrange ment of that institution. We submit the following from the ‘•Blue Darter “A dignified, soldierly looking man moved to our town last week. A re porter was sent around to interview him. We find Mint he is a real live officer, having served as third lieuten ant on the bullet-riddled, spirit- haunted, blood stailied, battle scarred fioldsof Manassas. Cold Harbor and the Wilderness, and received a slight flesh wound while tryiug to dodge a federal battery at Gettysburg, the Waterloo of the confederacy. Now, as many of our citizen? rank as cap tain, major and colonel, we confer the title of “General” on the gentleman, and ho will heroaffer be referred to as such. Raymond, Cotton is Sick. Referring to the cotton crop, the .Savannah Morning News suys: Cot ton is in a bat} way, and unfavorable weather has continued through the week all over the cotton belt. Rain has fallen in all the districts of the south, &nj in the south Atlantic states the precipitatlou hasten very great. In fact, iu the territory adjacent t„ Savannah it has been a regular del uge. The continued rains have pre vented cotton picking, jjid a great deal of matured cotton has been lost by being beaten out on the grouud, so that future receipts will consist largely of storm beaten, dirty &j)d discolored cotton. It is now estimat ed that fully five-eights of the entire crop will be of low grade cotton.” Without intending to he facetious —the matter is too serious—or of per petrating an Irish bull, we may say to the above tbfit fully live-eights of the entire crop in this suctiot;, has not been made at all. Any irregularity of the bowels promptly corrected by using Lamar's Diarrhoea Mixture. The School Days A.re Here -A-gain.
