Washington. Oct. a.—In the ten
months ot the session that closed yes
terday President Harrison sent to the
Senate 3.837 nominations, ol which
all but twe ve were confirmed. As
many »f these nominations contained
the names of more than one person,
they represented probably 4,500 ap
pointments. Several hundred of
these were postmasters at offi es
which have become presidential
through the growth of business. They
also include appointments in connec
tion wuli the census, nearly all of
which are temporary in their na ure.
In the first session ol the Forty-
ninth congress, which lasted eight
months, President C'eveland sent to
the Senate 2,696 nominations.
