The Library.
A few public spirited gentlemen
some years ago laid tho foundation
for the splendid public library, now
open daily to visitors and the citizens
of Thomasville. The library con
tains several thousand volumes of stan
dard works,'and is supplied with the
choicest current literature of the day,

Here is a rich store of general and

Connected with the library ore many
curiosities and rare specimens, which
cannot fail to interest. All these are
daily open lo the public. Miss Reed,
the librarian, will be glad to receive
applications for temporary member
ship, from visitors. The charges are
merely nominal, enabling those who
are hero temporarily to use the books
and periodicals at a small monthly
cost. Of courso, these, and all <,there,
have tho privilege of the rooms and
their contents, free, but whero books
and magazines are taken out, a small
fee per mouth is charged.
The Contract Let.
The contract for completing the
Carolina, Knoxville and Western
road from Augusta toKnoville,Tenu ,
has been let to a construction compa
ny with a capital stock of $500,000.
The president of the construction
company is James U. Jackson of
Augusta. The stockholders arc New
York, Boston, St. Louis and Augusta
parties. The company proposes* to
begin work within sixty days, and to
push it to completion as rapidly as
possible. The subscriptions amount
to $550,000. William Baity of St.
Louis iB president of the railroad
company. The control of the road
has been secured by tho Augusta and
West Florida —News.
When completed this will give
Thomasvillo another outlet to tho
East, West and North.’and will prove
of incalculable advantage to the
place.
Thomas County.
Let Thomas county unite on the
12th of November, and show what site
can do in the way of an exhibit of
horse flesh and a grand basket picnic.
Leon and Jefferson counties are also
invited, and we hope old Thomas will
show to her neighbors that she still
knows how to entertain her guests.

resting him. He will be carried back
to North Carolina.
Alex. Little, also white, is another
new arrival at the Hotel do Hurst.
He has been under bond for misde
meanor. hot recently his bondsman
became uneasy, and turned pirn over
