RALLY TO TIIE RLTPORT OF THE SUB TREASURY’. Brethren, Truth is Mighty, and Will Prevail. | Come and hear the Truth as told by Bro. C. 6. Matteson—the truth about the sub-treasury bill. He will addrew the Alliancejnen and others on this important topic at Cairo, Tuesday. October 21st, at 10 a. m. Thomasvillc, Tuesday, October 21st, 7 p. m. The Haskell movement in South Carolina should not be encouraged. It is “anybody to beat Gordon. But they haven’t beat him yet. And if the people of Georgia are true to themselves, they will not biat him. Is there a democrat in Thomas county who will vote against Turner because be is opposed to the sub* treasury plan ? Bitter, poisonous sbafts are being hurled at Gordon from every corner of the state. He wears scars, already, scars won in defense of the people who arc now trying to slaughter him. Shame! The “Globe” is the latest candidate for public favors. It is published at Bainbridge, and will be devoted to the interests of Decatur county, and South Georgia. Col. O. G. Gurley, a brilliant and forcible writer, is edit or. We cordially welcome the “Globe” to our exchange list, and wish for it a prosperous career. Col. Pryor L. Mynatt is spoken of by his many friends as a candidate for Moyer of Atlanta. Col. Mynatt would make a Mayor of which the Gate City would be proud. Conserv ative, progressive and clear headed, he would adorn the position, as few would. 7 p. m. Valdo aldostn, Thursday, October 23rd 10 a. ra. Come and hear him, you will bo amply repaid for the troublo. Yes, “Truth is mighty, nud it will prevailand it will prevail against ’Brother” Matteson. He has been buttonholing the few white republicans here, and the negroes, electioneering —it is said—for the nomination at Camilla, on the 22nd. The republi cans of the second district will meet that day to uominate a candidate against Turner and “Brother” Matte son, who dropped down into Georgia five years ago from “bloody Kansas,” and who is drawing 845 per month, as a pension from the government, is anxious to get the nomination. He is making an effort to secure demo cratic votes, on his ndvocacy of the sub-treasury plan. It wont work in Thomas. Our democrats are not built that way. Alliancemen are democrats in this latitude, as Mr, Matteson will find. Democrats of Thomas will “rally to the support” of Henry G. Turner. » Alfred Wilkinson’s Card. Syracuse. N, Y. Oct. 18—Mr. Alfred Wilkiason, of this city, who was to havo married Miss Winnie Davis, says in a card published last night, that the reasons for breaking off tho engagement were matters purely personal. Ho added, “It is r , r ■ _ From among the clouds, ridiculous to suppose that political or land safely on the ground. “Georgian” has written anoiher let ter in which, while endosing the snb- treasury plan, he says that the farmers of the South and West should unite, and, inferential!;, suggests a new party. The Augusta Chronicle, speaking of this, says: “It strikes us that Mr. Calhoun is treading on dangerous ground. Does he propose to get up a people’s party ? Would he toll off the Southern farmers from the Democrati: party until he has something better to plant his foot upon 7 When men intimate about organix ing another party in the south, they are periling and threatening the white race. We do not beleive that any considerable number of Southern men can be thus drawn off. financial reasons should have any thing to* do with it. Imputation of any mercenary motive to her is false. Furthermore, Miss Davis has known for a year or more that I was poor. The burning of our house, though it was a serious Ioes, had nothing to do with her decision, for she had decided to terminate our engagement before that happened. When a lady decides, a gentleman has nothing to do but to submit.” Would Shield Gordon. Judge W. M. Reese, of Washing ton, one of the ablest and purest democrats in the state, has written a strong letter in reference to twenty eight alliancemen meeting in that county aud instructing against Gor don. He says the thousands ol dem ocrats of Washington county should be consulted. He closes with the following tributo to Gordon: “When I look over this, stale and eee the tremendous struggle which is going on; on one side a host nu merous, powerful, vindictive, ragiDg for the destruction of Gordon; on the other side this .illustrious man con tending almost single-handed and clone, but with a courage and power unparalleled in the history of political Strife, I cannot but hope that the came Providence which protected him from busing bullets and bursting •hells At the battle of the Wilderness when he taved Lee’s army from rout —which protected him from destruc- Vton at Ibo battle of Monocacy—which guarded him from danger, seen and Unseen, at the terrible battle oi Petersburg, may still carry him triumphantly through the present conflict* ■.
