Wo have a good school conducted
by Prof. J. H. Stephens, formerly a

Last Sunday we had some very nice
music by the noted C. T. F. F. D.,
J. F. Cordin and other good singers
of the 17th.
We have a good Sunday school con
ducted by D. C. McCroskey.
We had a good sermon Sunday by
Rev. C. S. Hall, a- prominent Free

county.
B. A. Alderman, a prominent farm
er of the 18th, was over to see \V. It,
Singletary, Monday. Come ngair,
Mr. A., and kill some more birds.
By the way, W. R. S. killed two at
one shot.
The time will soon bo here when
nearly everybody will say, let’s' go
over to Mr. Singletary’s to the sugar
boiling. They don’t care so much
about the sugar cane, but you kc.ow
there is Miss Minnie, who is a fine
organist; that’s the reason they want
to go. By the way, Miss Minnie is
our organist at Sunday school, and
you bet your life she plays very
nicely.
We anticipate a nice time at (foe
White school house, next Sunday.
Rev. J. S..C. Glenn, one of Cairo's
prominent men, was out nt W. R.
Singletary's last Monday.
Cole Thompson, of North Carolina,
who has been working for N. A. Ba
ker, left for home last Tuesday.
The crops of tbo 17th are not as
jf&od as they were lust year.
The farmers, of the 17th, are hard
working, thorough going people. They
do all their work themselves, and nt
the end of the year they have some
thing.
If the farmers all over the state
would do their own work and not de
pend, upon the negroes, they would
soon he independent.

Only Two Cases.
The Mayor was almost disgusted
with his court yciterday moruing,
when he glanced over the docket and
■found thereon only two cases, and
they were of so little moment that
he hurried through and adjourned
his court. Willie Crewly was the
first name on the programme. Ho
plead guilty to the charges against
him, and was fined two dollars and

the list. The case against Miller for

OUJt COUNTRY CHAT.
To the ladies in the country:
I am anxious to have a portion of
your trade. I know from experience
that the daily ‘ routine of your busy
lives prohibit any close attention to
tho over-changing fashions and styles
of millinery, and yet you wish to wear
as nice and well trimmed hats as any
one. Others may not feel able or
disposed to pay. a big price for what
really need not cost as much as is
f enerally askc^ of country ladies,
ecause they are not so well posted in
quality, prices, etc.
I will take pleasure in dealing with
you in a straight-forward, candid way,
so as to deserve and retain your con
fidence and trade. You will receive
the latest, newest styles, the best and
tastiest trimming at the lowest price
it is possible to sell for.
I do not pretcud to sell nt cost, or
below cost. I am not in business for
that purpose, but no one will sell you
goods, at first price, os low as I do.
When you visit town drop in at
my store and make yourself at home
anyway. Always glad to see you
whether you buy from me or not.
