Atlanta has find an expo-ition, and now she has the legislature. To day will tell the tale ns to the complexion of tho next congress. There will be some lively caucus ing in Atlanta today and to night. The Presidency of the Senate and Speakership of the House, are the principal plums. bride’s aud grooms were dressed in cotton baggiug, took place in public at the Piedmont Exposition. A lit tle more privacy and less publicity would have added to the marriages. A Cure for Consumption. Prof. Koch of Berlin is not the first man who has claimed to have discovered a cure for consumption. Many have preceded him, and still consumption's victims are as numer ous as ever. Prof. Koch is the man wao a few years ago was sent by the government of Germany to India to discover the bacillus of cholera, and who announced that he was success ful. It may be that he was success ful, but after his alleged discovery had been discussed for awhile, and his name had become known to the whole civilized world, nothing more was heard of that particular bacillus. The discovery, if it was ever made, has been of no benefit Jp humanity, because no remedy that would kill :the bccillus has been invented. It is rather remarkable, however, that he refuses to say what the con sumption bacillus remedy is, and the Assertion that it is so costly that only the rich will ho able to obtain it, is Calculated to create a doubt that he made any discovery that will prove to • be really valuable.—News. Yiung Hen! This is for You. 1. Save a part <f your weekly earungs, even if it be no more than a quarter dollar, and put your savings monthly in a savings bank. 2. Buy nothing till you can pay for it, aud buy nothing that you do not need. A young man who has grit enough to follow these rules will have taken the first step upward to success in business. He may be compelled to wear a coat a year longer, even if it be unfashionable; he may have to live in a smaller houso than some of his young acquaintances; his wife may not sparkle with diamonds nor be resplendent in silk or satin, just yet; his children may not be dressed as dolls or popinjays ; his table may be plain but wholsomo, and the whiz of the beer or champagne cork may never be heard in his dwelling; he may have to get along without the earliest fruit or vegetables; he may have to adjure the club-room, the theatre and the gambling hell, and to reverence the Sabbath-day and read and follow the precepts of the Bible iustead;—but ho will be the better off in every way for this self- decipline. Yes, he may do all these without deriment to his manhood, or health, or character. True, empty- headed folks nmy never sneer at him and affect to pity him; but he will find that he has grown stroDg hearted and brave enough to stand the laugh of the foolish. Ho has become an independent man. He never owes anybody, and so he is no man’s slave. He' has become master of himself, and a master of himself will become a leader among men, and prosperity will crown his every enterprise. Young men 1 life’s discipline and life’s success come from bard work aud early self-denial; and bnrd-earn- ed success is all the sweeter at the time when old years climb up on^ your shoulder nud you need propping up.—Ex. Hacune’s MIork. A special dispatch from Atlanta to the Macon Telegraph says: “If anybody doubts that John B. Gordon will bo the next United States Senator, ho should come to Atlanta and mix with the crowds about the hotel lobby’s now just begiuniug to gjow a sprinkling of advance guard of legislators. “Already the inevitable result of Dr. Macune’s unwarranted interference in Georgia affairs is apparent in the com ments that one hears.’’ The democrats of Georgia Bhould resent Mr. Macune’s interference in Georgia politics. He has nothing in Cimraon with Georgians; is not one of us, and his efforts to beat Gordon will, we hope, result in Mr. Macune being set down upon by tho Georgia legislature. Plant’s Line to Jamaica. Tampa, Nov. 2—Tho steamer Oli vette, Captain James McKay, arrived at Port Tampa this evening, having mado the tun from Port Antonis, Ja maica, to her wharf in the extraordi- nay time of 62 hours. Her passengers Wire H. B. Plant, Morton F. Plant, 6. A. Brown, chief clerk of the state department and others. Mr. Plant went to Jamaica to make arrange ments for establishing a line of steam ers between Port Tampa and King* ston, Jamaica. He has decided to establish it eemi-montly, nnd the first Btenmer.wil! be placed on the route about Dec. 1. This route will short en the voyage between both countries to three days. The new line promises to be very popular in both conntries, owing to its quick time and low fares. Ohio’s Coming Election. Columbus, Nov. 2.—The republi con state committee estimate the re publican plurality in the state at the coming election at about 18,000, and claim the election of 9 congressmen with a possibility of li, in case heavey republican vote is polled. The democratic committee, on reports from 83 of the 88 counties, claim that their entire ticket will be elected if there is no falling off in the democrat vote, and if 365,000 democratic votes are polled they ■ estimate that the head of the ticket will be elected by a plurality of 10,000. The commit tee estimate that fifteen democratic congressmen will be elected, though flime of. them may have small plural!- Gordon Stands by the Party. Atlanta, Nov. 1.—There was a second meeting at the county court house to-night in the interest of Colonel Livingston as the congres sional nominee. Speeches were made, and a paper read from Gov. Gordon, strongly urging voters to stand by the democratic nominee. Some anxiety exists ns to the result of the election, but though Col. Haight will undoubt edly get some democratic votes there seems to be no cause fur alarm. Fast Trotting at Birmingham. Birmingham, Ala., Nov. 2.—At the closing races at the state fair to day Belle Archer, a 3-year-old belong? ing to May Overton, of Nashville, trotted a mile in 2:22}, which is the fastest lint?-made this year by any 3-year old'n tho United States. Hal Pointer paced against time for a purse of 8250, making a mile in 2:13}. The fair closed to-day after a two weeks’ success. A careful canvass of Philadelphia indicates that the vote between Patti- son and Delamuter in that city will be very close. As Philadelphia usually gives from 20,000 to 30,000 republi can majority this indicates a tremen dous change so lar os the present state campaign is concerned. The demo crats are confident that they can make a stand'ofTin Philadelphia and that Pattison will beat Delamater 20,000 votes at least in the state outside the city. Pattison is gaining every day because Delamatcrs record will not stand scrutiny, and the indignation against Quay rises higher ss the cam paign proceeds.—Telegraph. &BO. “W. 175 Broad Street, Masury Hotel Building.
