The news actually gets better. Reed’s rascality his party. helped to defeat FIEI The defeat of Breckenrtdge kansas will be regretied. in Ar- cracy. Old Leon rolled up a round thous and majority for the democratic tick- ' ct. The election for Judges will begin on Monday in the legislature. Then there will be a scramble. It is now certain that the democrats will have a majority approximating one hundred in the next house. Many place the figures even still higher. The Floridian says : It is rumored that the Augusta, I’al- lihassee and Gulf railway company will soon put on a large force of hands and expect to have cars running to Tallahassee within 90 days. Tell it again : yes, tell it again, that the democracy of the country have triumphed over fraud and corrup tion. The iniquitous McKinley tariff, the brutal force bill, and Tom Heed’s radical rulings and rascality, have been spurned by the American peo* pie: spurned and repudiated in a manner which has struck the republi cans with astonishment. They are , paralyzed. WI'A'Q. 1 The Araericus Recorder says: “The alliancemen seem to find it n hard matter to agree on a candidate for the United States Senate. Hines don’t seem to do; Norwood is not liked, Smith and Gartrell have almost dropped out, and Calhoun is said to be a railroad man, so who is the man ?” Why Gordon, of courso. Who else should it be f The Nation's Rebuko. Mr. Thomas B. Reed was elected Speaker of the House in the present Congress by a majority of 7. When the House adjourned the Dictator had succeeded in making that majori ty 24. When the House meets iu December, 1891, Mr. Reed, if lie is the candidate of his party for Spea ker, will be defeated by a majority of at least 70. That is the response of the country to his insolent challenge to accept a House of Representatives which he thanked God was no longer a deliberative body. It is the answer of the country, also, to the tariff of the Republican party, put upon the statute book just in time to be voted on by the people, and to the Force bill postponed “until after the elec- lions.” It is not so much the rover- j sal as the indignant repudiation of the “popular verdict," which Air. Iliscock claimed had been given in advance in favor of the McKinley bill. It is the rebuke of the natiog,! to the party managers who had set up ! ( eS ~ the gblden calf of monopoly nnd called on the people to bow down and worship it. It is the notice to Mr. Harrison and his administration that the government of the United States cannot be bougSt with money or with I patronage more than once by the i A.tn.i purchaser —New lull Times j ISSS 5 175 BROAD STREET, MASTXRY HOTEL BUILDING. Beakcs, demo crat, for the Assembly instead of Rose, republican. One of the Alliancemar, Moore, of the Forty-fourth dt-tricr, has said that he will affiliate with the Democrats on all party measures, but will not vote for Gen. Palmer for United States Sen- at or. The Democrats hope to gain anoth er Representative in llardin county, where the returns are as yet incom plete. This would give Gen. Palmer a ma jority of one on joint bal.'ot. Wesleyan Advocate. The prayer wheel consists of a metal box about as big around as one which hold* boot blacking, and about twice as deep. Through it a wire is stuck, and is fastened into a handle a foot long. Inside the box there is a roll of prayers written in Thibetan characters, «nd the worshiper ratth s off prayers at the rate of 100 a minute by giving the handle a twist and setting the bov to rolling. Each roll records a prayer. Every prayer does away with one or more sins and puts a brick in the pave ment which leads toward heaven.—F'. G. Carpenter’s Letter. UOd 5m Gk W. The Times estimates the majority j will sustain himseli nobly in the posi President Mitchell of tha Senate. The press of the state very generally endorse the election of Hon. Robt G. Mitchell as president of the Senate. The News and Advertiser, Albany, says: Southwest Georgia is proud of the president of the Senate. Robert G.
