The New Metal.
It is said that aluminium at $1 a
pound would !>a only twice as costly
as copper at 13 cents a pound, owing
to the fact that bulk for bulk, copper
is much the heavier. It is plain,
therefore, that any considerable in
crease in the supply of this semi
precious metal will produce decided
effects in the arts. For many purpo
ses, apart from its lightness, alumini
um is a more useful metal than sil
ver. In view of the combination it
exhibits of lightness, strength and nil
changeahlcncss. it is, for a great many
purposes, much the better metal. At
the same time silver will continue in
use ns a lining for dark clouds, as
long as the pull of the poet holds
good with the administration.—Sa-

The Ne «s says:
During the general excitement last
Tuesday a hustling little woman in

county. She is Miss Adelia F. Wilson.
It was a pretty tight squeeze for her,
but then, you know, a woman doesn't
mind that much.
Blaine made a bad break in Phila
delphia last Saturday when he said:
‘I have come here not with the pur
pose of eulogizing the administration,
but to bear my testimony that as
Pennsylvania votes next Tuesday, the
natiou may vote two years heuce.”
