Mardro returned from Auburn Tuesday night, accompanied by his charming bride, who a few hours before changed her name from Miss Sarah Bivins to Mrs, Mardro. The wedding took place at the bride’s homo Tuesday morning, and was a most happy ceremony. Miss Bivins, belonging 11 one of the best old families, and being blessed with all nature’s graces, was admired to a degree flattering, and yet most just, and Mr. Mardre was the envy of all, as ho bore bis prize from the Alabama city to our own.—Americus Recor der. Mr. Mardre’s Thomasville friends joins in wishing that all their present anticipations of the future may be fully realized. The present legislature is composed largely of farmers, of men without experience in the tricks and ways of the politicians. They were subjected to a fearful strain in the late contest for Senate. But down in the bottom of their hearts was grounded a reso lution to do right. And they stuck to it. No amount of persuasion, threats or badgering could drive them an inch. Bill Arp, in his own pe- culair, quaint style, thus refers to the tribulations of the farmers in the leg islature : I felt sorry for those farmers— sorry because they had so suddenly plunged into the dirty mad stream of politics and were daily and nightly and hourly besieged, importuned and harassed by the eager, restless crowd of lobbyists for their votes. It is enough to make the clear head of a veteran swim. How can an unsus pecting farmer stand it? If he listens to them all and trusts them all he does not know what to do, aud yet it will uot do to hide from then), or treat them with disrespect. With many it is like the last speech before a jury and no judge to cninteract its iiillucnco It reminds me of Jim Perkins, who was elected a justice of the peace away bade before the war. It was a new business to Jim, and there never was a more trusting, un suspecting man. He was a true gen tleman himself and believed every thing that was told him. I remcm bar that the first case that was tried bolero him, I was lor the plaintiff and made my little speech so clear and convincing that Jim did not hestate a moment, but took his pen and said : “Major, the court are sat isfted. The court will give judgment for the plaintiff.” Tom Alexander bounced to his feet and exclaimed : “But hold on your honor. Hold on, if you please. I represent the defendant and I haven’t been heard yet.” Jim laid down his pen and said: “I bog your, pardon, Colonel. I heg your pardou 1 forgot that you were to speak. Of course the court will hear you. Proceed, sir.’’ By the time that Tom had con cluded a change had come over Jim’s mind—a very great change—aud he seized his pen and remarked : “Ma jor, the court will have to give judg ment against you. Colonel Alexan der is certainly in the right.’’ “But hold on, your honor,” said 1, “hold on, for I am entitled to the conclusion.” “Well, that is a fact,” said he. “I didn’t think of that. Proceed sir. The court will hear you with felicity,” whereupon I rose forward and in a few minutes knocked all the light out of Tom's argument, and before I closed Jim was convinced and seizing his pen, remarked: “That’s enough Major. This court are satisfied. Dogon it fellows, I was right at first and I knowed it at the time,” and he gave a judgment in my favor” IQ to 0 to M KNOX’S NEW YORK HAT’S'- “w:b aeb SOUZED agents zpoieb % the— ! -A-Tootto Com.fortsVbleEEat i “On Bartli.” I cSs aD-AJNTIBI*. { 108 BROAD STREET.
