Much interest is manifested in tho Suite School Commission. Governor Northen is taking his time and will, no doubt, make a good appointment Capt. Bradwell, of Liberty county, is strongly urged by his friends. His appointment would give great satisfac tion to this end of the state. Few men in the state are so well qualified for tho responsible position. In dis cussing the matter the Savannah Times says: ‘•The belief is gaining ground iu Atlanta that Capt. S. D. Bradwell, of Liberty county, will be appointed School Commissioner. -^Governor Northen never tells whom he will ap point for any position until lie is ready fo send in the nomination. To a friend of Capt.Bradwell’s,who called at the Executive office on Saturday, the Governor spoke in what seemed to be a significant way. The Capt. is strongly endorsed and is an Alliance- man and has made a most favorable impression upon the Governor. Dr. Warren Caadlcr was Gov. Northeu’s first choice, and he oflered the place to Emory’s president, but the Doctor declined. Capt Bradwell is thoroughly fitted for the position, and is looked upon by most people as the most fit man who is a candidate for.the office. It is thought that the Gov. will make the appointment at an early date.” Temperance Lecture- A rare opportunity is offered the people o! i'ltuuiasviile to hear the tem per • qtt- stioii calmly and logically do .rl Iiv an eloquent southern 1 . s. ; Web-, of Chuttuiionga, \ : eb.l.m b\ bo'.UjUnd the , ■ - : io ■ a i: nt mini-Urol the e . m . iin a natural .'•'oc is one of the i_ i i.zoic, ol ilie \V C. Speaking of file vacancy in the railroad commission, the Savannah Daily Times says: “S6uth Georgia is entitled to rep resentation >4n the railroad commis sion. Frequently it happens that the commissioners, who are all from one corneMtf the State, do not ap predate questions which grow out of traffic peculiar to our section of Gcor gia. It South Georgia does uot get nn appointment this time the law will bo so changed that the commissioners wiil bo elected.” Let tho state agricultural society, at -,its meeting in Savannah, shake up the legislature in the matter of a Georgia exhibit at the World's Fair. The Law Violated. Washinotox, Dec. 8.—The annual report of the Inter-State Commerce Commission was presented to congress yesterday. It states that the law has been persistently ami repeatedly vio lated, either secretly or openly, in a great number of cases. The commis sion finds it impossible to bring ac tions to prevent violating, owing to the great number ot these cases, the great extent of the country and the mileage, the number of railroads, and tho unwillingness of the railroads to aid in the prosecutions, one against another. The roads not involved either keep the secret or else fail to aid in the prosecution. The laws are often nullified by cun ningly framed devices prepared by acute legal minds employed for this purpose by the railroads. Even citi zens and business men, who suffer from such violations, fail to take legal action. Great difficulty also lies in the inequalities of the laws of various States bearing on the subject. © i-i CO © <0 W & §T T. T.
