With the approach of the holidays tne Southern Express Company’s busi ness is increasing. Mr.^Reynolds, the local agent", will promptly handle every thing sent or received here. A hunting party from the Clarendon, consisting of Messrs. W. Fitzgerald, Thos. Fitzgerald, Thos, McGill and J. H. Comstock, spent the day yester day shooting ducks on lake Miccosu- kic. The advance advertising car of Prof. Burk’s circus, which exhibits here next Friday, is side-tracked at the depot. The bill hoards all over the city aro being covered with highly colored printing ninttcr. The regular weekly game of the Progressive Euchre Club took place at the Stuart on Thursday evening. The playing was spirited, and much interest was manifested in the game. Miss Garfield won the lady’s first prize, and Dr. Gohnic, the gentle man’s first prize. Miss Clara Deisher and Mr. Clnyt Dickiuson, also took prizes The latter was closely pushed , by two or three gentleman, buti “Clayt” carried off the prize. - j “Lost in New York.” The grand realistic comedy drama, “Lost in New York,” with its river of real water, real steamboats, real yachts, rowboats and other marine craft, will receive its initial produc tion iu this city at the opera house next Thursday evening. Dec. 18th. The play is one of the greatest suc cesses on the road, and is highly spoken of everywhere. The company receives the highest encomiums of the press, especially Gus Pixley, a broth er of the celebrated actrees, Annie Pixley, who is credited with a tre mendous hit. Yesterday, Deo. 12th, was the anni versary ol the opening ot the New Gulf House. Mr. Fields, the popu lar manager, informs its that the bus iness 1 f tho past year has exceeded all expectations. In the, twelve months past, from Dec. 12, 1889, to Dec. 12, 1890, there have been over eleven thousand arrivals, as their register will testify. This speaks volumes tor tho manner in which Messrs. Philpot & Fields havo con ducted (be house, and is a record of which they may justly feel proud. Dr. J. W. Hinton. \Ve trust thnt the South Goorgia Conference will continue Dr. J. Vv. Hinton as presiding elder of this, the Thomasvil!© District. Dr. Hinton is one of the ablest ministers iu the United States, and we feel honored down this way by having him to pre side) over our Methodist Church-” The above from the Bambridge Democrat will meet with a very gen eral response.throughout tho district. Dr. Hinton is one of the ablest min isters in tho conference. The New Train. The Montgomery Adveriiser says: A train will leave Montgomery at 7 a. in. known as L, & N. limited for Jacksonville, and Tampa, and all other Florida points; goes to Jacksonville via Thonnsvville and Montioello and the F. C. & P. Railroad, arriving in Jack sonville at 9 p. in. and at Tampa at 7 a. in. the following morning. This train wili commence running to-day. Quarterly Conference. The Fourth Quarterly conference for the Thomasvillo district will be held to-night at 7 o’clock, at the Pastor’s study. A full attendance of the official members, is earnestly requested. Dr. Hinton, Rev. Mr. McDoncll and Rev. Mr. Ryder will leave on Monday morniug for Macon, where they will attend the annual confer- auce of the M. E Church South. Members who are iu arrears, if there are any, in their church assessments, should not forget that these gentle men will leave on Monday morning. DeLauncc, the white man who has been on the chain gang for some time post, made his escape Thursday morn ing. He was a trusty, and took ad vantage of the confidence placed in him and skipped out. The gang was at work on tne boulevard about two miles froui town. .Mr. Bennett and a corps of survey ors are near town. They have been running a line tor the proposed road from Tallahassee to Thomasville. All of the right-of-way, with an excep tion or two, has been secured- Thomasville, Ga., for 1890. WIIITK.
