Pittsburg, Dec. 21.— special
from Mount Pleasant, Pa., says that
little mining town is in the throes of
a series of marriages de convenance.
It seems the receut shut-down in
the coke regions has been especially
hard on the single men, they being
laid oil in preference to married men.
All of the single men employed in
the immense Standard works of the
H C. Frick Coal company met in se
cret at Mount Pleasant and passed a
unanimous resolution to marry before
the new scile is presented, January 1.
Several engagemeuts have already
been announced, and the little town
is frantic.
