Christmas don't come but once year, but then you need not get drunk about it. Mr. Geo. B. Morton, of Baltimore, was among the arrivals at the Gulf yesterday. Sloan Young, of Montgomery, spending the holidays with bis parents in the city. The man with a phonopraph, on Lohnstein’s corner, yesterday, did a good business. Mr. J. P. Horner, of Chicago, agent for Howe's Great London Shows, was at the Gulf yesterday. Primrose and West’s minstrels very highly spoken of by. the press eveiywhere they have played. Dr. John M. Ptlsburg and wife, of Chicago, arrived Tuesday evening and are pleasantly located at the Gulf. The Hussars-'are ordered to be at their armory on Friday afternoon at 3:30 p. m. for the purpose of mounted drOU Dr. A. B. Couch, who is in business in Alabama, came home Tuesday evening to spend the holidays with his family. The Henshaw and Teu-Broeck com pany left yesterday morning on the 8:30 train for Americus, where they played last night. Sheriff Hurst’s horse ran away with him the other night, and threw him. outjof his road cart, bruising him up considerably. Very little damage was done to the cart cr harness, I Two darkeys came near having a “defuglety” on Madison street yester day. Friends interfered andjpreveuted any disturbance of the peace. The stringency in the money market and the McKinley bill do not appear to have afiected the matrimonial market, Cupid gets in his work right along. Council Proceedings. Council Rooms, Dec. 22, 1890. * Council met in regular session, Mayor Hopkins presiding. Alderman Hayes, Wright, Merrill ond Wise present. Minutes of last meeting were read and con firmed. Petition of O. W. Tompkins was read and in motion not granted. Mayor and clerk was instructed to make note for ron Safe purchased by the city .Same to be made as agreed on, in another contract with the company. Alderman Merrill offer ed the following, and action was postponed to next meeting, Be it ordained by the Mayor and council otthe city of Thomasville, and it is hereby ordained by authority of tho same, that, after the expiration of any license now in force, the district in which liquor may be sold by retail, shall bo the same as the Fire District—the one to be extended or contract ed ns either may be—and that no applica tion for license to retail liquor outside of what may at tho time be tho Fire District shall bo considered by coancil.
