the K. A D. will put the mall hen
equally as quick.
Movement of Melons.
Melon shipment, up far date are
considerably in advance of the same
time last year, but the chances are
that shipments will drop off very
much this week. It is not likely that
this year’s crop mil be anything like
as large as hut year’s. This time last
year the season was just in its prime
while now it is on the decline. Prices
are very low everywhere. One gen
tloman got returns yesterday from
two cars shipped north several days
ago. One car did uot bring enough
to pay freight and the other only
netted a few cents over a dollar. Un
less prices improve shipments will
soon cease, as present prices will not
pay the expense of loading. Borne
thing like a thousand cars, were
shipped lost week, but this week will
fall far short of that numbor, while
next week will be still shorter. It is
thought that by the litteenth almost
if not quite the full crop will be
marketed. There were shipped last
Saturday, June 1st, 116 cars; Juuo
1st, 1892, total up to date includ
ing June 1st, 1893, 2,362; same date,
1892, 2,112. It will he seen from the
above figures that 250 more cars have
been shipped this year than last.
For St. Simons.
Tom Bottom’s low rate trip to St.
Simon*, which wid be in effect next
Monday, will doubtless be well pat
ronised. The trip can be made and
tea days speut on the idand at very
reasonable rates, fbe fare for the
round trip ia.only 83 35 and tickets
are good lor ten days. Parties going
from Thomasvillo will take the fast
mail at two o’clock next Mouday.
Extra coaches will be placed on this
-train -for the accommodation ot the
excursionists and there will J® _
change of cars, a- a special will take
these cars at Waycrossand carry them
through to Brui-swick. The arriving
time at St. Simons is 7:45 p, m.

A Sad Case.
Capt, Hammond brought before
the commissioners at their meeting
yesterday morning the condition
Mrs. Scoggins, who Is confined in the
county jail on a writ of lunacy. It is a
hardship upon this old woman to be
thus confined. She is very old and
rapidly nearing the other shore. True,
she is dcmcoted, but not at all danger
ous, in fact is entirely helpless. She
should be given better accommoda
tions the few days that remain to her.
Jailor Singletary does all in his power
to make the unfortunate woman com-
for'.able, but there is no suitable place
at the jail in which to confine her,
She Is kept in the main corridor,
full view of all the other prisoners, the
only place upon which she may lie
down being upon a mattress kindly
provided by the Sieriff, which is laid
upon the floor. The commissioners,
we are glad to know, will endeavor to
have her pi iced in the county poor
house and properly taken care of.
is indeed a sad case, one which has
excited the sympathies of all who have
become acquainted with the facts,
