caught it badly. Referring to the
subject the Albany Herald says:
In the north and northwest any
number of families are starving and

IWhat Next?
This remarkable February-
markab'e for its weather—is but little
more than half gone, and in it
have had more sorts of weather and
more phenomenal weather for this
part of the country than the oldest
inhabitant can recall ss ever having
been experienced before in any one
month.
During the last two weeks we have
had rain, unprecedented low tempera
ture, sleet, snow, sunshine, more rain
—and yesterday afternoon we had a
regular hail storm, such as we some-
times have in the spring and summer,
after which a double rainbow circled
the eastern sky.
What next?

Philadelphia doesn’t measure up
with New York. The latter city,
though largely democratic, elected a
republican mayor to cleauEe municip
al affairs. Philadelphia defeats Pat-
tieon and the boodlers carry the day.
The defeat of ex-Governor Patti-
son in Philadelphia is the triumph of
boodle aud ring politics over honesty
and good local government. This,
however, is in keeping with the record
of the republican party. No one need
be surprised at the result.

Yes, that cannot be denied; but this
