Bush Gives Up The Bailie.
Atlanta, Ga., Dec. 5.—When
the house met this morning Mr.
Bush, of Mitchell county, t! e au
thor of the famous dispensary bill
that was killed in tbe house yes
terday, arose in his place and ad
dressed the chair. It was expect
ed that he would make a motion
to reconsider yesterday's adverse
action. Instead of doing this,
however, lie stated in an explana
tory manner, that, in view of the
fact that many friends of the bill
were absent, he would not take
advantage of bis right to ask a
reconsideration. This was the
last act In tbe obsequies over the
dead dispensary idea in Georgia,
unless the tight is renewed in the
next legislature, and there is some
talk among' the prohibitionists of
keeping the agitation tip.
Maher and Fitz to Fight.
New Yotk, December 5.—John
.). Quinn, manager of Peter Maher,
met Dan Stuart this morning and
agreed to a light between Maher
and Fitzsimmons.
Quinn heard Stuart's proposi

Fitzsimmons for a $20,000 purse
and the championship belt, to be
held near Kl Paso, Tex.
Quinn assented to it and called
for articles of ag-eement. Stuart
suggested that they would better
bo signed outside the state and
Quinn acquiesced.

The South Coming to the Front-
Much lins been said of late about
tfie south manufacturing her own
cotton. Few people are aware of
the strides which have been made
within the past few years in that
direction. Augusta has started a
movement which will be of iuealeu
lable advantage to ibis great in
dustry in the south. It will, i
doubt, be carried out successfully
and its results and efforts will I
far reaching.
The matter took definite shap
in Augusta at a meeting of manu
facturers and capitalists this week.
The following resolutions were
unanimously adopted :
“Whereas, the south has beei
eminently successlul in the manu
facture of cotton goods, having in
fifteen years increased tlie capital
invested 500 per cent, from $22,-
000,000 to $110,000,000, and,
“Whereas, A diversity of pro
duct would secure new mills and
largely increase tbe cotton indus
try, and,
Whereas, With new outlets the
south could produce and distribute
all classes of cotton goods miir.li
more cheaply than at present.
Resolved, That it is for the in
terest. of the south to encourage the
production of all classes of cotton
goods not now made by southern
mil's, especially tbe production >f
the highest grades.
“Resolved, That the complete
levelopraeiit of cotton working in
the south will he greatly aided by
tlie immediate establishment of
out her it bleacher ie.-, print works,
starch works, and similar indus
tries.
“Resolved, That to fully show
th;se opportunities in a manner
that should bring them to tli ■
knowledge of the whole people o
the United States would be areas
enable method for inducing the
location of such industries in (lie
south. "« a
“Therefore, Be it further re
solved. That the citizens of Au
gusta consider that a Cotton Ex
position in Chicago would he a
[iioper and effective means for the
purpose juanied;
Resolved, That a committee
on permanent Organization be ap
pointed to report to this meeting a
plan for such an exposition.”
That's business,
in the great and growing city
in the west, destined, perhaps, to
he the metropolis of tiie new world,
will lie shown the resources and
possibilities of the world’s one
greet universal staple. Georgia
leads in this important move
ment. The Carolinas, Alabama,
Tennessee and other cotton manu
facturing states, will, no doubt,
heartily co-operate in the move
ment. The great west and north
west will have their eyes opened
when they gaze on the southern
products, on the output of king
