THE ROADS BUILDING BETWEEN TIF-
TON AND MOULTRIE.
Tift on, Ha., May 3 —After be
ing isolated so many years, our
; sister city, Moultrie, see? s likely
I to soon have a turteit. of railroads.
Just now two lilies are making a
race to that city from Tifton at
top speed. As already reported,
work began on tho Tifton, Thorn-
asville and Gulf at tlrs point last
week, and now news comes to
Tifton that the Piuopolis Saw
Mill Co., which also owns and op
orates the Sparks, Moultrie and
Gulf, began work Monday on the
extension of their line from Sin
clair, a station on their line, four
miles cast of Moultrie, to Tifton.
A charter was secured a few
weeks since for a line from Moui-
trie to flie northern boundary of
Colquitt county, and the Pinopo
lis company say they propose to
build through to Tifton, regard
less of whether any other line is
built or not. They have a large
body ol timber in northeastern
Colquitt, a.id wnen they build to
til's they will be to close to Tifton
that the saving in their own
freights alone will warrant the
completion of the tine.
This will give Tifton two direct
lines to the county seat of Colquitt
county.
INSPECTED THE FRUIT TREES
Commissioner of Agriculture
Stevens has returned to Atlanta
after a week's visit to Southwest
Georgia, where he made a thor
ough inspection of the fruit pros
pects at Fort Valley, Marshallviiie,
Americas, L-estiurg, Albany,
Mitchell county, Thomas, Brooks
and Lowndes counties and part of
Berrien county.
The trip was taken primarily to
make an inspection of the fruit
prospects and to see if the fruit
trees were killed, and generally
to examine into the condition of
the farming interests of the state.
Mr. Stevens reports that very
few id the fruit trees are killed,
aud he finds that as far as the
trees themselves are concerned,
they are in a ffouri&hiug condition.
He thinks that the peach crop for
the present- year will he a failure,
aud does not. tbin£ there will be
a carload sent out of Georgia. At
Tifton, however, there'are a few
peaches, and the growers are con
fident that they will have some to
sell.
Mr. Stevens says that while tLe
cold blizzard killed the fruit, that
it is also destroyed the San Jose
scale, or ac least ill) per cent of it,
so lhat a little effort on the part
of the growers will do away with
it entirely, and the blizzard was
not, therefore, an unmixed evil.

It deceives nobody. We are sim

off of them and their country.
We may, after wo get done kill
ing, looting, burning and laying
in waste generally, try to briug
the Tagals and the others up in the
way they ought to go, but that
wi I he done to gratify our own
pride, and in the hope that it will
help to line our own pockets.—
