In speaking of the finding of the Schley court of inquiry Sen. Miles said: “I am willing to taka the judg- incut of Admiral Dewey in the matter. He was a commander of a fleet, and as such, has kuown the anxieties aud responsibilities whiobreston a man under thsse circumstances. He was iuetrn mental in the destruction of one Spanish fleet, and knows and rea lizes the feelings that encompass an officer under such conditions. “1 think Dewey baeeummed np the matter in a clear and concise manner, and I believe bis conclu sions will be indorsed by the pa triotic people of the United States,. I have no sympathy with the efforts which have ; been made to destroy the honor of an officer un der such circumstances.” Scbley Appeals to Congress. Washington, Dec. 16. — The Maryland friends in congress of Rear Admiral W. 8. Schley have determined to bring his case to the attention of Congress and seek there the vindication they claim is due him. Tbie action was determined npon tonight at a dinner given by Qen. Felix An gus and attended by Senator Mc- Comas, the Maryland members of the house, and a few other friends. Hon. H. A. Jenkins Dead. Eatoutou, 3a., Dec. 17.—Hon H. A Jenkins, ex-speaker of the Georgia bouse of representives, died here tbie afternoon. We refer to the scene m front of Robison’s yesterday afternoon when hun dreds of tin horns were given away. The boys were lined up before the hour, 3 p. m., and as soon as the distribution began bedlam broke Ioobs It was the Arst real touch of Christmas, and the boys rent the air with varying loudness and lengths according to their wind capaoity. Meeting of City Exeutfve Committee At a meetiug of the city execu live committee held on Mondai, the 16th, there were present Messrs. J. S. Montgomery, W. A Pringle, A. H. S. Cook, and A. M Watson, Mr. J. L. Beverly be ing absent. On motion J. S. Montgomery Was elected chairman, and W. A. Pringle, secretary. In accordance with the aotion of the mass meeting a primary elec tion for mayor and alder men and two members of the board of education wee ordered to be held on the let Mon day in January, and the following were appointed as managers of said eloction: W. H. Bibb, J. W. H. Mitchell and W. M Reese; the election to be held at the court bouse, and the polls to open at 8 a. ra. and close at 4 p. m. J. S. Montgomery, Chairman. W. A. Pringle, Secretary. Exercises at Allen Normal School. The Allen Normal school closes for the holidays on Friday. The afternoon of that day in most of the rooms will be devoted to the closing exercises, which will oou- sist of oral examinations and other exercises of general inter eet. The exercises in the gram mar room will be held on Thurs day afternoon instead of Friday All parents aud friends of the pu pils are oordially invited to be present and see something of the work of the school. See announcement in another colamn. Will Open This Afternoon. Tbe Andrews Carnival Company arrived yesterday afternoon and will open, up this afternoon at 2 o'clock. By permission of the mayor, with tbe consent of parties interested, tbe shows will be strung along Madison street, aud will not occu py any portion of Broad street. In addition to' a mayor and aldermen, there will be two mem bers of the board of education nominated at the primary oo tbe first Monday in January. Miss Ina Brown has been called to Madison, Fla., to see a sick brother. Dr. Daniels and Supt. Kirkland, of tbe Plant System, have re turned from a trip to Atlanta Masury Hotel Cafe. Morse, at Inwood Plan tation. Mr. Ely is the soo-iu law of Mr. Morse, and a promi nent citizen of his state. Three sieters, Misses Minnie Mariou and Bama Evans, daugbt era of Mr. James F. Evans, who have been iu Texas for some time, have returned borne to tbe very ? ;reat delight of their many riends. Mr aud Mre. Horace Thompson, of 8t. Paul, arc again in Thomae ville, as they have been for many seasons past. They are occupy ing their winter borne on Hansell street, fronting Paradise park. Wyman Jones are again at their conntry place, Elsoma. Their coming is always a welcome event to their numerous friends here. As will be seen the name of Mr. George W.
