Macon. Ga.. May 10.—R. B. Pegram,
receiver for the, Hawkinsvlllo and
Florida Southern Railroad, will ask to
day that Judge H. A. Mathews In
Superior Court confirm the sale yes
terday of fifty-one miles comprising
the southern end of the road from Asb-
burn to Camilla, and 300 stockholders
in the newly organised company which
will lake over the road. J. N. Pldcock.
of Moultrie, who will probably be pres
ident, and Dr. T. C. Jeffords, of Sylves
ter, bid In the road as trustees for the
new company, tbe Georgia, Ashburn,
Sylvester and Camilla Railroad Com
pany. for 3125,000, yesterday.
The opinion was expressed yester
day afternoon that Judge Mathews will
approve the sale, as $125,000 was the
upset price fixed for the southern end
The receiver was ordered to make
$225,000 out of tbe transaction and it
is regarded as easily probable that
$100,000 will be made oue of the other
forty-one miles from Hawklnsvllle to
Worth.
There were no bids on the northern
end of the line. W. M. Legg, of A1
bany, president of the Georgia, South
western and Gulf, was expected to bid
and was present, but took no part in
the proceedings. It was intimated
yesterday afternoon, however, that a
movement similar to the one which
bought the southern end is under way
and may result in the northern end,
with the exception of the sixteen-mile
section from Pitts to Worth, being sold
as a going concern. The receiver re
gards the Pitts and Worth section as
hopeless as far as any other purpose
than selling it (or junk is concerned
Legal tangles were being cleared
out of the way yesterday afternoon for
the Georgia. Ashburn. Sylvester and
Camilla Railroad to begin operation
by June 1. if possible. The sale price
carried with it the trackage, stations,
two locomotives and two or three cars.
The road will be operated as a co-op
erative proposition, with 300 or more
people participating In Its proceeds
and sharing its responsibilities The
Pidcocks. of Moultrie, are understood
lo have put up half the purchase price
on their good faith In the transaction,
while J. X. Pldcock will he president,
W. Pldcock and Frank Pldcock. of
Moultrie, will be associated as stock
holders. The company is applying im
mediately for a Georgia charter and
has already sought the consent of the
Interstate Commerce Commission to
he recognized as a common carrier.
The receiver olferen yesterday the
property In its entirety, with ninety
two miles of trackuge There was no
bidder on that, proposition. Then be
offered it in parcels, with no bidders,
until he reached the fifth proposal,
that of the southern end. Mr. Pldcock
and Dr. Jeffords then offered their bid
There was none in opposition.
In the party from South Georgia
were Dr. Jeffords and C. W. Hlllhou.se
from Sylvester, T. A. Acree. Sr , and
