iSSIBUD BY HTADOO
Denver, Oct 16. In anjtddress in
_ie Denver auditorium yesterday
'William ©. MeAdoo, former Secre
tary of the Treasury and war-timn
director of (the railroad administration
assailed the Harding policy of
deflation and the Republican tariff
bill and concluded with an appeal
for the election of a Democratic
Conress and for the election of the
Democratic tickets in all states.
“The Republicans have passed the
most extortionate and indefensible
tariff bill ever enacted in our history.
Mr. MeAdoo said. “The Payne-
Aldrich bill, which destroyed Mr.
Taft politically and brought the Re
publican party to defeat in 1912,
outclassed by the Fordney-McCumber
hill. It is estimated the cost of liv
ing to the American people will be
increased by the Fordney-McCumber
hill $4,000,000,000 per annum, of
whieh only $4,000,000 will go into
the American treasury. The re
maining $§,600,000,000
collected by monopolies, trusts and
combinations for the special profit of
these favored interests.’’
Discussing the Harding policy of
deflation, Mr. MeAdoo declared “i
fatuous policy was ever pursued
in American history than this attack
by one great political party
terity.
“It waa treated as though it were
national evil instead of a national
blessing,” he said.
'At the same time prosperity was
being destroyed, taxation, whieh is
bearing down with crushing force up-
the people, has not been reduced
as was solemnly promised in the Re
publican platform. The new internal
* ~ gave no relief to income
taxpayers except to less than 1,000
penons, and those persons enjoy the
largest incomes in America.”
When asked If he Is a candidate
for the presidency, Mr. MeAdoo said:
’Nothing appeals to me less than a
presidential suit or a presidential
suite.”
During his speech, Mr. MeAdoo
was asked by someone in the audience
about the soldiers’ bonus.
Mr. MeAdoo replied that he “would
suggest that the average earnings of
the favored trusts and monopolies

“Strange, for Christmas is yet a
long way off. There must be some
motive behind his sudden obedience
doubt the answer can
found in the thought, that the
majestic Hagenbeck-Wallace Circus
is coming here Wednesday October
the 25th.
“It’s only natural that he should
want to see the trained animals, per
forming to the command of their
trainers feats that are daring and as
tounding. Then there are the funny
us to help take up much of
Johnny's time, besides all the cele
brated equestrians, the famous aero,
bats, death-defying aerlaliata and
many other aunts that just fill bis
back with chills.
“The day is not for off when
Johnny will ask to go. Then that
will bring a good excuse for mother,
father, sister and brother. They will
all say they have to take Johnny.
’S funny how they do look for ex
cuses, when they know that they like
it themselves, that they wouldn’t
miss a performance.
“And if they miss this year’s ex
