i OUR CANNING PLANT
| Business men end farmers unani
mously endorsed a movement to bring
a canning plant, packing plant mor<
properly called, to Thomasville. This
will Involve a certain amount of con'
tract truck and fruit. This was ex
plained in detail by the gentlemen,
who desire to bring the plant here,
They want to come with a thirty thou
sand dollar Investment because they
have been led to believe that Thomas-
vllle presents a very desirable and at
tractive field for this form of enter
prise, by reason of the ease with which
canning crops can be cultivated.
They don't ask any money, or any
stock. All they want Js the privilege
to buy certain truck crops in certain
quantities so that they can operate
their plant. The price paid for the
truck was stated very frankly and it
does not compare with the truckers'
prices obtained at intervals for choice
productions. This is to be quantity
production, with a steady and ready
cash market.

brewing over the form of recognition

are ready to contest bitterly foi
separate organization, if anything is
granted, and to maintain with precise
and historical arguments that a
amalgamation of the races in any t

the solid principles of racial rights.
The American Legiou has a high
mission, even if the part of It s<
devoted to more practical and political
methods, Including voting and bonus
measures. The mixture of rac
the Legion will not be possible in the
South and the state organizations have
voted against it. This is not true
the North and the policy must soi
day be threshed out and the policy of
the national organization fixed.
It the South Is forced by the A
cau Legion to admit colored soldiers
into the regular organization, they will
all be disbanded and some other
ganization perfected along safe and
sane racial lines. There Is no dispo
sition on the part of the South

colored soldiers. They respect bis

soldiers, it will not pass muster and
everybody know* why It will not.
