The business already developed has been steady and consistent, despite the threatening handicaps of Industrial disorder and disorganization. The people have begun to realize Just what their needs are and Juat what they must face to attain them, and they have been atlmulated to activity. We may well expect that conditions will improve in the South within hort time and that it will be felt in very avenue of buainess enterprise, t Is not going to he a bonanza, anything of that kind. Prices are Ing maintained and money is c< paratively easy to get for legitimate siness at a fair rate of Interest. People are buying on the idea that ey can arford It with business pros- cts so good. General depression has hiked and there is a feeling of optim ism. despite the glooms and grouches who always compare results with the years and growl when they don't exceed them. This section is in fairly good shape and will be more so when fall crops are all harvested and the money comes, as it will. Thomas county is particularly for tunate, even though the conditions leem to be even normal. *] producers are going to market their stuff at a price that is above what they might have expected, and they made more this year with less money than in the past seven years. If they are not satisfied they will take out their peeve in effort* to make it up next year. You can't beat that of a spirit and the farmer has lore of it than any man alive. If a discovery by Dr. F. C. Banting, of Toronto, stands the test, another disease has been stricken from the list of Incurable maladies. C. Banting's discovery in the treatment of diabetes hich has been pronounced reliable by the University of Pennsylvania. Doctors say it la yet too early to de- ihe the treatment as a sure “cure" what has hitherto been regarded a practically incurable disease anonunce definitely that diabetes has been conquered. In every case the disease has been checked. Not a single patient undergo ing the treatment here has died. In several cases sugar, the Irritant diabetes, has been added to the diet quantities that would Fppall those familiar with the disease and without Injurous effects. Dr. Banting is not yet 30 years old but his relationship with the Unlversl- of Toronto, General Hospital and the Academy of Medicine is on a sure footing. We have Been a number of advertiaements that violated thla law, but got by because no one saw fit to make a report of It. Ot course, when least expected, trou ble will result and then somebody will be sorry that more care was not taken. It Is better to be safe than sorry.
