Ivester, who is in Tifton hoapltal
from bullet wonnd sustained when he
waa shot by Deputy Sheriff Hardy
Friday morning is in a precarious
condition. Hardy, with Deputy Ross,
Constable Bass and Chief of Police
Thrasher, raided a whiskey still which
Ivester and R. F. Johnson
operating six miles South of Tifton
this morning about 6 o’clock. When
officers surrounded the still Ivester
was firing and Johnson testing the
liquor as It ran out. The still had been
located early the night before. It
full of mash ready to run and ten
barrels of buck were standing by.
Officers watched it end made the
raid this morning. When they throw
their guns on Ivester and Johnson
both tried to run. Ivester
Deputy Hardy who caught him and
in the struggle the officer’s pistol
was discharged, the ball entering be
low Ivester’g right arm and lodging
against the 'hack-bone 1 passing
through one lung. Johnaon ran
Thrasher and Bass both shooting
him, Bass with a shot gun. To avoid
killing his man, Bass ran him down
and caught him in about forty yards.

requested that ‘Governor Hardwick
appoint 100 Georgians as delegates
to the annual convention of the
Southern Commercial Congress,
which will be held in Chicago
November 20 to 22, inclusive.
The Governor has referred the
matter to chambers of commerce
throughout the state with a request
that they furnish him the names of
prominent business men who will at
tend the cogress if naraej.as dele-

After the congress adjourns a
large party will be organized to take
business trip to Mexico, and Gover-
or Hardwick is hopeful that a num
ber of the Georgia delegates will be
members of that party.
