THE ELECTION IN TIFT COUNTY
Tifton. Go.. Nov. While Tift
county cast a solid vote for the De
mocratic nominees, some queer things
developed in the vote on the Consti
tutional amendment. Peach county
iby 33 majority although Houston
several of Its hardest workers
here, the older citizens of this county
having a feeling recollection of the
fight they made tor a new county six-
years ago, and realizing some
thing of what a new county has been
worth to them. The Senatorial Dis
trict Amendment and the Augusta Cir
cuit amendment carried easily, but
the amendment which proposed to al
low Muscogee county to pay an addi
tional sum as salary for Judge of that
circuit, had hard going. Two hun
dred and forty-one took the trouble to
i the polls to vote against the
amendment and an equal number vot-
r It, making the proposition a tie
r as this county Is concerned.
The queer thing about this Is that
the proposition was purely a local af
fair concerning Muscogee county
alone, and meant nothing to the peo
ple of Tift one way or the other. Yet
folks are against anything tl-al
means more salary. Only about half
of the people that went to the polls
voted on any of the constitutional
intendments.
