.Said to be in Collusion to iiofeut
the Oitjr Charter Amendment
of Atlanta.
Atlanta, Feb. 20.—The old charge
that the Men and Religion Forward
Movement in Atlanta is mixing too
much politics with its religion, was
sharply revived this morning when
the open charge was made againBt
Marion Jackson, of the Men and
Religion Executive Committee, that
he had made a political trade with
Chairman Carlos Mason, of the po
lice board, by which the Men and
Religion agrees to join with Mr. Ma
son’s crowd in fighting the proposed
new city charter; and Mr. Mason on
his side agrees not to oust Chief of
Police Beavere, who is regarded by
the Men and Religion a* their pro
tege.
Mr. Jackson has denied that there
has been any trade, but does not
deny that the Men and Religion
Movement will line up against the
•new city charter in the coming po
litical fight.
If this docs come about, it will
not be the first time that Men and
Religion bulletins have figured in
Atlanta politics. The recent elec
tion of Mayor Woodward is attrib
uted by many people directly to the
bitter attacks that were made
against him in Mr. Jackson's bulle
