All do notsnffcr alike. Some are suddenly seized with, toe mostexcnmm

a sudden change in the weather oi^exposure to d?mp, chilly winds or g ^

a point ^several miles away,
court. His iittle 7 year old daughter
was playing in the lot some distance
from the house about eight o’clock,
when she was attacked by the negro
Williams. Her screams brought as
sistance from the house, and the negro
fled.
A small posse, in’charge of an uncle
of the girl’s caught Williams soon af
terward. They knew that an effort
would be made to lynch the negro, and
so decided to keep him secluded in the
woods until nightfall, when they would
bring him into town mid slip him over
to the jail at Bainbridge:
This plan went well, until its last
stage. Mr. Harrell and one other guard
had progressed to within a mile
of Whigham when they were met
about 8 ^o’clock Saturday night by a
mob of some 75 men who immediately
relieved them of their burden.
The' story runs rapidly from here.
Willianis was strung up to a tree and
his body literally tom to pieces by bul
lets of every description.
Postmaster Quinn of Whigham was
foreman of a coroner’s jury that held
an inquest over the body. No evidence
was discovered * against any man who
belonged to the mob, though it seems
that its ranks must have been filled
from people ont in the country. All
the residents of Whigham were report

places at the time the lynching oocurr-
