Radical. Opinion of Renegade
Southerners. —'A Washington letter
says : The Radicals, in private con
versation, do not hesitate to express
their contempt for teen of Southern
birth who are hanging to their skirts
for place and plunder. 1 heat 1 a very
prominent ono tho other day affirm,
with an oath not quite proper to be re
peated to “ears polite,” that he would
sooner touch pitch than the hand of
Rond, your recreant Judge. Ihe
compliment was paid in the way of
afi igning reasons for rclusing to be in
troduced to the “Judge” upon his re.
cent visit here. “It is one of the most
offensive necessities of party,’ said the
same gentleman, “that men capable of
betraying their section, their fellow
townsmen, their neighbors, their very
flesh and blood, for mere office and its
emoluments, should, to advance paitv
ends, be permitted to contaminate the
society of gentlemen.”
The Supreme Court Assailed. —The
telegraph announces the success of
Mr. RoutwclPs bill for the degradation
of the Supreme Court of tho United
States, by a strict party vote. The
bill provides that no person shall be
permitted to act as an attorney or
counsellor in any court of tho United
States who has been guilty of treason
bribery, murder or other felony, or
who has been engaged in any rebellion
against the Government of tho United
States, or who hxs given aid or com
fort or encouragement to the enemies
of the United States in armed hostility
thereto.
