The Richmond Times says the re*
port, that Gov. Pierpont had expressed
himself as haying been grossly de.cei.v-.
ed by professions of loyalty received
from leading politicians,, is untrue,
and that it is authorized to declare
that Governor Pierpont’s confidence;
iu the integrity and loyalty of the peo
ple of the State, and in that of all the
distinguished gentlemen who have
conferred with him and assured him
of the : loyalty of the different counties
of the State, is unshaken. He has
neither believed nor countenanced any
of the reports which have gone abroad
prejudical to the people of the State
He believes that Virginia is to-day as
loyal as Pennsylvania or New York.

The- records of. the • Andersonville
prison, captured by Gen. Wilson, are
missing. One of the clerks in the.
Quartermasters’s Department, in whose
hands the records, were last seen, has
teea placed under arrest by the mili
tary authorities, until he Can give a
satisfactory account as to the disposiv
tion he made of them. It is thought
by some that the records were stolen,
instead of being lost, for the purpose
of preventing them being used as evU

It has been stated that the.number
of white troops retained to constitute
the regular army will number one
hundred and twenty-five thousand
men. This is a mistake * the official
record shows but forty-three thousand
nine hundred, including general and
staff officers.
A Washington special says PresU
dent Johnson, a few days ago, inform
ed a delegation .of Missourians who
called to see him on business; that he
had decided to restore the writ of
habeas cotpus, and would soon issue a
proclamation to that effect. He also
said the army was to be still further
reduced by the muster out of troops
serving in such Southern States as
had satisfactorily re constructed gov-;
eminent.
