When General Lee learned of the
indictment for treason returned
against him at Norfolk, he wrote to
General Grant concerning the matter,
inclosing his application for pardon,
to be forwarded if the latter thought
proper. A correspondent of the New
York World says General Grant sent
in the application, and replied to Gen
f oral Lee that he considered the action
at Norfolk inadnrssible.
