COLQUITT STILL
SMASHED AT PELHAM
The Pelham Journal aaya: 1
Wednesday afternon Detecting Z. E.
Norton of Pelham and C. D. Wil
liams of Columbus, rode into town,
bringing with them from Colqnltt
county a distilling outfit. This out
fit, besides about nine barrels of
booze, was found on the premises of
T. B. Lane. Lane haring been noti
fied by his friends that the officers
were coming, neaped by a hair’s
breadth.
Tko still had been la operation just
a few minutes before the officers lo
cated It The llqtfld which had been
poured on the ground and had pud
died about In holes had not yet be
come cold, but still being so warm
that when Dick Norton Introdteed
his Hagers Into It In order to as
.tain Its odor reeelred a rery painful
scald.
The officers burated the heads out
of the barrels and tamed them orer
while the direful liquid rolled la tor
rents down the hill, side and on Its
way perfuming the woods with an
odor superior eren to such liquor as
“Old Joe." /
The still was brought to town and
examined by many who pronounced
It the most expenilre, In fact, the
most elaborate erer captured In this
county. The manouarrea ef Z. E.
Norton In locating and capturing
such offenders are characterised by
hts shrewdness as an officer and It Is
thought that It will only ha a matter
of little time before Lane will be
captured.
