The gift and spirit of prayer, how
they need to be emphasized In these
latter days—not the mumbling of a
few meaningless phrases, but thf ut
terances bom qut of a deep heart
union with Christ.
“P.rayer has divided seas, rolled

gush into fountains, quenched flames
of lire, muszled lions, disarmed vi

course of the moon, arrested the rapid
sun in its great race, burst open iron
gates, recalled souls from eternity,
conquered the strongest devils, tom-

I To the Times-Enterprise:
I have seen several statements In
the Times-Enterprise as t*o the prori-
Hon of the city court bill for T£om-
asville introduced by my colleague
and myself and while all the state
ments give correctly most of the pro
visions they are incorrect In some
of them. I will say to the people
Thomas county that I am convinced
of the wisdom of having a city court
and that I believe a large majority
of the people of the county favor
sucfc a measure. It can be •run at
very little more expense than our
present county court and the In
creased revenue from the city court
will more than make up the extya
expense of maintaining said city
couft. Now this question of a city
court for our county is not a new
one and believing most of the people
In the county In favor of the measure
I undertook to prepare a bill which
I think will meet our needs and be
satisfactory to all concerned. v As to
the provisions the court will have
unlimited jurisdiction In all olvlc
cases. It will hold quarterly ses
sions and the judge can adjourn
from time to time, thus keeping the
cosrt open for business at all times.
All misdemeanors are to bo tried in
the city court. The salary of the
Judge Is $1,200. The fees of the
solicitor are practically the same as
the fees of the solicitor of the county,
court. The i 'je and solicitor are
to hold of!*.:*; by appointment from
the gbvernr* .ntll the general elec
tion to bo 1 sld In October, 1908.
After that tl 0 they are to be elect
ed by the vc ars of Thomas county,
