. April Watermelon*.
It li tbe constant 'duty of the
newspapers to keep reminding, the
pobllc that Thomas' conntjr leads the
, world. Tbe latest proof of this Is
furnished by the Meigs Review. In
a field owned by A. 8. Brsswell and
J. A. Grant, near Meigs, four young
water- melons already formed were,
seen on the £2nd of April. Thtr 1s
a tecord breaker, and tbe owners of
the. field expect to ship by June
tenth.
Crisp's Cornerstone.
With Masonic solemnity the coi
ner stone of tbe court house of
tbe new ’ county of- Crisp
was laid this week. Borne of the
new counties already have their pub
lic buildings completed and nearly
all of them have made arrange-
, ments for them. Grady county Is
perhaps the only one that has cot
done something along this line. Ov
er there they are still struggling

The following Interesting little
sketch Is from the Moultrie Okserv-j

"Did you see where J. W. Sheffield
was seriously Injured at Amerlnus?"
was asked the Observer yesterday af
ternoon by a cltlxen. "He was one
of the pioneer promoters of Moul
trie, and the late Bob Bearden, fam
ous throughout this section was
started In business by him. Shef

Bearden over here to open a store,
taking half Interest Judge Han-
sell told me of Sheffield selling out
to Bearden. Both were honest to
the cent and 8heflleld had written
Bearden he wished to sell. When
he' came over to trade, Beasden had
all tbe’goods plied up on one side of
the hense and the money was on the

with'the success of the business and
the manner In which his Just stew
ard hkd managed his talents, that
he traded without “taking stock"

and returning to Thomasvlllo.”
Better Schools.
It takes both talk and action to
accomplish things. The state of
Georgia Is getting better schools.
For Instance right here In Thomas
county Pavo Is going to build a new
school house end the trustees are
studying the building at Meigs to
get some Ideas. Both Meigs and
Boston hare fine schools, ■ while the
school at Metcalfe has been greatly
enlarged and Improved. Then all
the other schools aro In good shui>e
and are getting better. The state
schodl commissioner has Issued a
report on some of the North Georgia
counties, and things up there In tbe
> mountains are far worse than they
are In South Georgia. By tho way
this Is true of other lines tban those
scholastic. It we will all keep talk
ing education and building better
school houses the school system In
Georgia will yet be something to
take pride in.

A SQUARE DEAL
Is assured you when you buy one of Dr. Pierce’s Family Medicines—
for all the ingredients entering into them are printed on the bottle-
wrappers and their formula are attested tinder oath as being complete
and correct. You know just what you are paying for and that the in
gredients are gathered from Nature’s laboratory, being selected from
the most valuable native, medicinal roots found growing in our Ameri
can forests. While potent to cure they are perfectly harmless even to
the most delicate women and children.
Not a drop of alcohol enters into their composition. A much better
agent is used both for extracting and preserving the medicinal principles
used in them, viz.—pure triple-refined glycerine of proper strength.
This agent possesses intrinsic medicinal properties of its own, being n
most valuable anti-septic and anti-ferment, nutritive and soothing
demulcent
Qlycerlne plays an Important part in Dr. Pierce’s Golden Med
ical Discovery in the cure of indigestion, dyspepsia and weak stomach,
attended by sour risings, "heartburn,” foul breath, coated tongue, poor
appetite, gnawing feeling in stomach, biliousness and kindred derange
ments of the stomach, liver and bowrls.
Besides curing all the above distressing ailments, tbe "OoMen Med
ical Discovery "Isa specific for all diseases of the mucous membranes,
as catarrh, whether of the nasal passages or of tbs stomach, bowels or
pelvic organs. Even in hs ulcerative stages h will yield to this sover
eign remedy If its use be persevered in. In Chronic Catarrh of the
Nasal passages. It is well, while taking the "Golden medical Discovery *
far the necessary constitutional treatment, to cleanse tbe passages freely
two or three times s day with Dr.; Sages Catarrh Remedy. This
thorough course of treatment generally cures even in the worst
In coughs and hoarseness caused by bronchial, throat and lung
affections, except consumption in its advanced stages, the "Golden
Medical Discovery " is a most efficient remedy, especially in those obsti
nate, hang-on-conghs caused by irritation and congestion of the bron
chial mucous membranes. The "Discovery" is not so good for scuta
coughs arising from sudden colds, nor must it be expected to cure con
sumption in its advanced stages—no medicine will do that—but for all
the obstinate hang-on, or chronic coughs; which, if neglected, or badly
treated, lead np to consumption, it is the best medicine that can be taken.
If the sweet taste of the "Discovery," caused by the glycerine, is
disliked, a few drops of lemon juice, orange or lime juice, added to each
dose will make it agreeable and pleasant and will not in the slightest
Interfere with its benefical effects.
