A pleasant sight that had not
greeted the eyes of Tho'masville peo
ple for several months was seen yes
terday morning when the children
went to school. The opening at the
Fletcherville building was an inter
esting affair. The total registration
in the white schools is about 35'“*
and all of them were on hand yes
terday together, with a uumber of
parents, and several of the school
board. The teachers were on hand
ready for work, and the now mem
bers of the faculty made a pleasant
impression. The morning was de
voted to organization. The pupils
were assigned to classes, and the
lists of necessary hooks were given
out. The attendance is larger than
ever before and will tax the capacity
of the building.
Regular work in the classes will
begin this morning, and everything
will be running smoothly by the mid
dle of the week.
At the colored schools on Clay
street US registered, which Is seven;
more than attended on the opening t
day last year.
INVESTIGATE STRIKE.
Railroad ('oniiiiisioii Petitioned By
Citizens of Several Towns.
Atlanta. Ga., Sept. 14.—The r,all-
road commission will make an inves
tigation of the telegraph operators’
strike to learn how it is interfering
with conditions in the state, partic
ularly in the offices in the smaller
towns of Georgia. This action will
follow petitions tiled by citizens of
Gainesville. Griffin, Cedartown and
Marietta. They class upon the com
mission to investigate and compel
the restoration of telegraph service
at the places named.
While the petitions appear on their
face to be spontaneous, they nrej
identical in working and and its aid j
they were prepared by C. T. Landson •
a prominent Atlanta attorney, who
has been closely idenlived with un-j
for. labor matters for several years, i
Gainesville complains that its office
lias been closed since August 15. Ma
rietta complains that it has bad no
service since the same date, while
Cedartown and Griffin states that
they have been cut off from the out
side world since August 10.
Cnder the new. law the railroad
commission has control of the tele
graph companies- No office can he
closed without the consent of the
commission. It Is belived. however,
that the investigation will show that i
the strike was beyond the power of,
th** companies to prevent and that'
their closing of country offices was!
done with n legal and valid excuse. |

GANDY 6 MALLETTE’S STABLES, "WoWiLT, ST
At our last sale we sold 50 head of horses, consisting of nice drivers, saddlers, draft
and combination horses at auction to the highest bidder. At this our second sale we want
to sell 10O head. Terms strictly cash. S lie commences at 10x30 a. m. This being our
second public auction sale, wo ask you to give us a trial.
We will conduct this sale on a high plane and strictly business principles, making every horse sold just as re
presented. Our past record is well known to you, and in view of the fact that the advanced price in stock works a hard
ship on us as well as the buyer, we have decided to conduct these auction sales that will enable us to sell for less
profit. When a horse is bought worth Ihe money he is hall sold. We shall expect each person to pay for and take
his horse when sold. No horse worked out until after the sale closes N
