Seven Tried end Sentenced by Judge
Henscll Monday.
Monday afternoon et' the city
court, a good amount of busineae
was transacted by that body In a
short space of time. There were flv°
white men brought up for stealing
rides on the Atlantic Coast Line rail
way and each pleaded guilty to the
charge and were given three months
as a sentence. Their names were
Jerry Ryan. Talmage DeWitt Win
slow, G. C. Bennett, Earl Stephens
and H. O. Parker. They hall accord
ing to their story from different parts
Of the country and were going the
rounds In an Illegal manner.
Joe Gens a negro was tried for the
same offence of a more aggravating
nature and was given seven months.
Another dusky hued offender was
tried for vagrancy and he was glvea
eight months. The asm# he goes by
Is Nelson McFarlan.

Mr. Lane Introduced another of his
most entertaining and Instructive
lessons on teaching geography, and
held the close attention of the
teachers for one hour.
Mr. Cy Mallard here entertained
the Institute with a piano selection,
"Rustles of Spring.” -Mr. J. R. Hin
son sang “Bid Me to Love.” These
two young men received much ap
plause for Mesa selections so beau-
tltfully rendered.
Mr. U. V. Anderson took up spel
ling and discussed It from the point
of practical utility, giving plans and
msthods for practical teaching- ’ Mr.
W. H. Searcy, Miss Sasser, and Mr.
Lane talked on the subject Of}
