.Major R. L. Wylly addressed the

the new company on having Mr.

THE EVOLUTION.
Of Cod Liver OH—The Latest And
Most Valuable Form.,
Early in the 17th century physi
cians became aware ot the fact tbat
ibe-ebds’ livers and their fill con
tained medicinal e)emefft<r*Of great
value In tbe treatment of pulmonary
scrofulous, wasting ^dlseapes and
chronic rheumatism.
In using Cod ' Liver Oil In Its
original,, form they discovered that
thi' oil'; in which tbe valuable cura
tive elements were embodied, was
very objectionable, and of no medi
cinal value. How to separate or eh-
tract these medicinal properties of
the cods’ livers from the objectiona
ble oil was tbe question.
After years of experimenting they
produced tbree different and distinct
kinds of cod liver oil, namely,—the
clear pale, the light brown and the
brown. The clear pale was that
which was first extracted from tho
cods’ livers. Tbe fight brown was
obtained by boiling the livers after
the clear pale oil had been extracted,
and the browb oil was the result of
pressing the residue.
None of these products were free
from the nauseating oil, and no one
of them contained all of tbe medici
nal elements known to exists In the
cods’ fiver. It remained for two em
inent French chemist. Morgues and
Gautier, to produce the perfect cod
liver preparation. After twenty
years ot study and labor they dlacov*
cred an extractive and concentrating
process which enabled them to sepa
rate (ram tbe Iresb cod’s livers and
tbelr oil, all of tbe medicinal besting
and body building elements and dis.
card tbe otl entirely, and it la by this
process tbat Viaol to made.
To these valuable cod fiver extrac
tives to added Vlnol, a remedy unex
